The next few months went smoothly thankfully, Dave was attending meetings to help him through his addiction and so far he was doing well. Lily was preparing for Victoria's baby shower, so they decided to keep it small knowing Patricia would feel obligated to invite everyone she knew.
"Hey, I know we've been really busy lately, but Mary asked a while ago if we would have dinner with them when you were feeling better. Would you be up to it tonight?" Lily asked as she came into the living room. Dave looked up from the TV screen, "Tonight? I don't think I have anything going on so sure." Lily smiled, "Okay, I'm going to call Mary and tell her we'll be over tonight." She left the room with a smile, she called Mary and told her that they would be over that night for dinner. "Does 6 work?" Mary asked on the other line, "Yeah, 6 should be fine! We'll see you then." They said their goodbyes and hung up. Lily came back into the living room and sat next to Dave, he reached his arm up and slid it around her waist pulling her closer to him. Lily laid her head on his shoulder, she looked up at him and his eyes were glued on the TV. "I'm sorry, was I not close enough?" Lily asked with a grin, Dave looked down at her curiously, "Clearly not if I had to pull you closer. Do you not want to touch me?" Dave asked, teasingly offenenced. Lily laughed and looked at the TV, Dave wrapped his other hand around her hip pulling her body closer, her leg now laying atop his lap.
Dave ran his hand down her thigh, he squeezed it gently before leaving his hand there. "You're starting to like Mary, aren't you?" Dave asked, although it sounded more like a statement he was bringing to light than a question. "Yeah, she's definitely not bad, she's nice." Lily said, "I'm a little shocked she somehow ended up with my dad, I understand how my mom did when they were both young and stupid but Mary has other options." Lily said with a chuckle, Dave smiled. "The mind is a mysterious thing." Lily nodded in agreement.
After a few minutes Dave's hand was off of her thigh and now being tangled in the strands of her hair. She could feel his eyes on her as he played with her hair. "Why are you looking at me?" Lily asked, drawing her eyes away from the screen to meet his dark brown deep eyes. "Because I can." Dave responded with a serious look, "I know you can, but I'm asking why you are." Dave shrugged, "I just want to look at you...I like looking at you. You're pretty." Lily smiled, "It's a little unfair that you get to play with my hair all the time and the only time you'll let me play with yours is when we're falling asleep or you're stressed out." Dave dropped his face even more, "I'm being sentimental and all you can think about is how it's unfair I don't let you touch these perfect curly locks?" Lily chuckled, "Yes! It's unfair!" Dave rolled his eyes with a smile, "No one but me gets to touch them." Lily sighed, "No one?" She asked with a pouting dramatic face. Dave thought for a second, "This once, you can do my hair but after that you will never touch it again." Lily's lips curled into a big smile that spread across her face, "But what about when you lay your head on my chest in the middle of the night and grumble until I play with your hair." Dave shook his head standing up, "I don't do that." He said denying the truth.
