ONE:
EXTRAORDINARY

It was a foggy August morning. The morning dew lightly fell over the automobiles, morning birds chirped happily, the world rested peacefully, still soundly sleeping.

A young girl of 11 was the only disturbance of the peace. Her nose was pressed against her bedroom window, slightly fogging it up. In her hands she played with her locket, the last item of her late mother. The young girl cherished it.

The girls name was Elsie Jones, and she was just an ordinary girl. She lived an ordinary life, had ordinary friends, but Elsie was tired of ordinary.

For the past 5 years she had been lost. Lost in herself mind you.

Ever since her mother had died and her father had gone missing she had been put into foster care. Her foster parents were wonderful, but it just wasn't the same. It never would be.

Some things are better left being ordinary.

"Elsie, its time to wake up dear." Her mothers voice called from the hall outside her bedroom door.

The brunette sighed and clasped her locket around her neck, turning away from the window. "Coming." She called.

Elsie changed out of her nightwear and into cargo pants and a button up. When she was satisfied with her appearance Elsie clamored down the stairs and into the kitchen where Mrs. Greene started on breakfast. At the table Mr. Greene sipped his coffee while reading the newspaper.

"Morning." Elsie greeted sitting beside Mr. Greene.

"And a good morning to you," The man greeted not looking up from the paper.

"Sausage or bacon Ellie?" Mrs. Greene asked caring to the stove.

The girl hummed in consideration, "Bacon sounds wonderful Mrs. Greene." The woman nodded and started on it.

"Anything good in there?" Elsie asked.

"Just some pathetic car adds. Here, knock your self out kid." Mr. Greene passed Elsie the news paper per usual and the girl set to work on the crossword.

Elsie loved puzzles. She would take it upon herself to challenge her mind in ways no one else could.

"And... done!" The girl exclaimed setting her pencil down and stopping the timer.

"1.48! By golly that oughta be a record!" Mr. Greene exclaimed.

"Well done Elsie!" Mrs. Greene smiled.

"Thank you!" Elsie smiled helping her self to the freshly cooked bacon that her foster mother set onto the table.

"So whats on the agenda today?" Mr. Greene asked.

"Well I was gonna start on the garden and perhaps make a casserole for dinner." Mrs. Greene shared. "Would you like to help Elsie?"

"Maybe. But I'm not sure if I trust myself with either of those tasks." The girl laughed.

"After last time I agree, no offense dear." Mr. Greene chuckled.

"Good point both of you. Oh, the post is here!" Mrs. Greene sprang up and went to the door.

Elsie turned her attention back to the news paper. The head article was about missing car parts. Boring.

Elsie flipped the page and saw a section about a new store opening called Le Paz. Also boring.
