THIRTEEN:
A NEW FRIEND

Today was the last day of the holiday and Elsie did not intend to waste it. Most of the students who had gone home would be returning tonight, but for now it was still the small group of students.

Elsie had chosen to sleep late that day despite having lots she wanted to do. She hugged her black cloak tighter around her as she strolled into the Great Hall. Everyone sat at their house tables today.

Elsie had started to make her way over to the Gryffindor table as usual when a thought occurred to her.

If Daphne was to scared to move, then Elsie would.

Satisfied with the plan Elsie waved at the red heads and Harry before turning and walking in the opposite direction.

Everyone watched her silently as she plopped down in the bench across from the curly haired girl.

"Oh you've really lost it haven't you?" Daphne looked up from her plate with wide eyes.

"Maybe," Elsie shrugged. "Would you pass the syrup?"

Daphne stared at her deeply before sliding her the sticky bottle.

"So do you have any plans today?" Elsie asked piling a stack of pancakes on her plate.

    "No." Daphne answered shortly.

"Me too. If you'd like maybe we can spend the day together. I'm sure we could find something to do." Elsie offered.

"Why are you doing this?" Daphne asked instead of answering.

"What do you mean?" Elsie asked chewing her food.

"I mean why are you being nice to me?" Daphne questioned pointedly.

"Why wouldn't I be? I don't care about houses, you seem like a good person, and I want to hang out with you." Elsie smiled.

At that moment a dark haired boy sat down next to her. "Morning." Harry greeted.

"Hi Harry, do you know Daphne Greengrass, she's in our year." Elsie introduced the two.

"Nice to meet you," Harry smiled.

From across the table, Ron hesitantly sat down next to Daphne. The girl shot the boy a judgmental look and he shrunk back slightly, "I'm Ron Weasley."

Daphne looked at the group before turning back to her food. "Well help yourselves I guess,"

    Elsie grinned, "If you insist,"

After they had finished breakfast Elsie had successfully convinced Daphne to spend the day with her.

The two girls stared out in the library, but made plans to meet up with the others later on for a snowball fight.

Elsie lazily sprawled herself out on an armchair while Daphne scanned the shelves looking for a good read.

"So tell me about yourself," Elsie stated.

"Not much to tell," The girl shrugged.

"Thats not true!" Elsie scoffed and leaned forward. "Whats your favorite color?"

Daphne shot her a weird look before answering, "Purple. And you?"

Thrilled to have finally made a good conversation Elsie said, "Well I like all the colors, but my favorite is green."
