"Wow..." Deaton muttered as he looked at younger Derek—still unconscious—on the metal table of the animal clinic.

"Wow?" "Wow," as in, "I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do"-kind of "wow?" 'Cause that's the kind we were hoping for..." Stiles said.

"I think you might be overestimating my abilities." Destin said.

Lydia placed her hand on Derek's arm. "He's cold—really cold."

"Do you think this is permanent?" I asked.

Deaton sighed. "I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate. This is well beyond my experience."

"So, what do we do with him?" Stiles asked.

"Until he wakes up? Probably not much. It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."

"You mean, from Kate?" Scott asked.

He nodded. "If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate."

"Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia asked.

"Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her." Deaton said.

"And bad for everyone else." Stiles finished.

Deaton looked at us. "You guys should probably go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger...So, maybe the rest of you should get ready for school."

"Someone should stay with you..." Scott said.

"I'll stay." Lydia offered, "My grades are fine, despite missing a few classes."

"I'm so not okay with this—"

    "Guys, go." Lydia told us.

    "No—"

"Text us if anything happens." Scott said, grabbing onto Stiles' hoodie and dragging him out, with me following.

"Nope! Still not okay with it. All right, just 'cause you're stronger doesn't mean you can boss me around all the time!"

Scott, Stiles, and I walked up the steps of the school to get into the building for our first shared class of the day: History.

"So, it's, like, two in the morning. I wake up, and she's just lying right next to me. It's a total invasion of privacy, and even though I tell her I'm not interested. She just sneaks in. This was, like, five times a week." Stiles said to the two of us.

"Tell Malia to back off." I said, "either you do, or I will. And I won't be as friendly with it."

    "Ooo. Someone's jealous." Scott said.
