This one-shot was requested by NewsieGoil152. I'm actually pretty proud of this one, and I really hope you enjoy it.

"Hey Kayleigh, how ya doing?" Jack asked me as we walked along the street.

"I'm doing wonderful, Jacky boy. How about yourself?" I replied.

"Walking on air," he said, slinging his arm around my shoulder.

"And why is that?"

"Well, you know Dave, right? So, I met his sister last night, and she was something. I think I'm gonna ask her to be my goil," he told me.

"Oh, uh, that's- that's great. Hey, listen, Jack. I just remembered that my dad wanted me to go, uh, help him with something. I, uh, gotta go," I stammered, turning and running away. I stumbled back to the apartment, tears threatening to spill out of my eyes. Why would he choose me? I thought to myself.

"Kayleigh? Is that you?" my dad asked.

"Uh, yeah dad. I'm kinda tired so I'm going to go to bed. Goodnight," I said, rushing off to my room.

The next morning, I had made up my mind. I was going dress up like a boy and join the newsies. I could see Jack and make a little money on the side. I got up, grabbed one of my brother's shirts, a pair of his pants, and his old shoes. I tucked my hair up under his old newsie cap and took one of his pairs of suspenders. I snuck out the front door and headed down to the newsboy lounge.

"I want to join the newsies," I said to Kid Blink when I had reached the newsies lounge.

"Okay, what's your name kid?" he asked. I guess he bought the disguise, I thought.

"Uh, call me Kyle," I replied.

"Alright." He turned to some of the others. "Hey! Mush! Racetrack! Come meet the new newsie!"

Racetrack smiled and shook my hand, while Mush gave me a look like I had three heads. "Hey, you guys go on. I have to ask Kyle something," he said.

"Uh, what's up?" I asked, trying to be casual.

"I think you know. What do you think you're doing?"

"Hey, kid. I'm just trying to make some-"

"Don't lie to me Kayleigh, I know it's you." I gulped and blinked, staring up at him.

"How'd you know?" I sighed.

"Because I know you. Now, why are you doing this?" I told him the story about Jack and David's sister. He didn't interrupt, and listened through the whole thing.

"Well, if this is what you think is best... welcome to the newsies."

Weeks went by and Jack and Sarah were a couple now. The strike was over and we had won. I became closer to Mush and Kyle became closer to Race and Blink. Kyle was also good friends with Jack. He would ask me for relationship advice and tell me how things were going between the two of them.

One day, all of us were hanging out in front of Tibby's. Jack and Sarah were making out and Mush was telling me to ignore it. The two of us were going to walk back to the newsies lounge when it happened. I didn't see the carriage coming until it was too late. The last thing I remembered was Mush saying it would be alright.

"Is she okay?" I heard a familiar voice ask.

"I don't know. Oh look! She's waking up," Mush david as my eyes fluttered open.

"Hey, Kayleigh. How're feeling?" Jack asked.

"Alright, I guess. What happened?"

"You got hit by the carriage. Mush told us who youse really were and we were all extremely concerned for youse. I wanted to go see how you were doing because I missed my best friend, but Sarah wouldn't let me go. She kept saying that she was my goil, not you. So, den I ditched her because I love you more," Jack explained.

"You love me more then your girlfriend?" I asked.

"I just told you, I ain't got no girlfriend...yet," he replied.

"I love you, Jack."

"I love you, too, Kayleigh. Sorry it took me so long to notice."
