"Newt, you know I don't like horror movies," Ava complained. It was Halloween night and the couple decided to stay home and watch movies.
"Just one? Then we can watch all the other stuff that you like, okay?" Newt pleaded.
She smiled, giving in. "Okay. But you know I'm gonna scream."
"I know. Plus, you really are adorable when you're scared," he said, grinning. In the end, Newt talked Ava into watching Saw. She spent the whole time with her faced buried in his chest. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom, okay?"
"You're going to leave me here?!? Alone?!? I don't know, Newt, I don't know."
"Hey, hey. It's okay. It's just a movie," he said, standing up.
"Yes, but a rather scary one, I must say," she muttered to herself. With every passing second, Ava felt herself growing more and more scared. "Are you almost done?"
"Oh my gosh, Ava. Relax. I'll be out in a minute," Newt hollered. She sighed.
Then she heard a floorboard creak. Her eyes went as wide as saucers.
"Newt? I-is that you?" Ava whispered, not daring to turn around. She waited for a reply, trying to calm down. "Hurry up in there, Newt!"
"It takes as long as it takes, Ava!" he yelled, as she heard the faucet running. She heard footsteps coming close to her seat on the couch.
Oh, God. I don't wanna die. Please, I don't wanna die, she thought, praying.
More footsteps.
I'm too young. I want to graduate college. I want to get married and have kids. I wanna grow old with Newt. Please don't let me die, she repeated in her mind.
A pair of hands gripped her shoulders.
A blood curdling scream escaped Ava's mouth. "NEWT! HELP ME!"
A laughing Newt walked into the room and high-fived the person behind her. "Told ya there's nothing to be afraid of," he said. "Nice work, Gally."
"Thank you very much," he replied, bowing, and walking around to sit next to Ava.
"Oh ha ha. You two are hysterical," she said, sarcastically. "Please tell me we don't have to watch the rest of this."
"Fine, what movie do you wanna watch?" Newt asked, kissing her on the top of her head.
"NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!!" Ava screamed. Gally and Newt laughed as she put it on. The rest of their Halloween night was spent singing along to Jack Skellington and pretending to not be home when treat - or - treaters came by.
