"Wow, this place is amazing!" Christine said, as she walked behind her best friend, into his summer house.
"Seriously, this is incredible, Dan," Lilla, her other best friend, said from behind.
"Uh...thanks," Daniel replied, awkwardly. It was a nice house, but there were few bedrooms- two to be specific. "So yeah, this is our room," he said as they walked into a room with a bunk bed and a roll out cot.
"Oh, dibs on the top bunk!" Christine said, slinging her bag onto the upper bed.
"Could I have the cot?" asked Lilla.
"Uh, yeah," Dan said. He was a pretty quiet kid, but the girls normally would up getting him louder through their craziness. "So, uh, you guys wanna go to the beach or something?"
"Oh my gosh- yes. Let's go! I'll go get changed!" Lilla replied, excitedly.
"You can get changed here," Christine said. "I'll go in the bathroom after Lilla." Dan nodded as she walked out to get changed.
Afterwards, the three walked out back to the ocean. Christine asked Lilla to spray sunblock on her back, then Christine reciprocated. She offered to Dan, but he said he wanted to work on his tan.
The next few days, the trio spent most of the time at the beach. Then, the unexpected happened. No one saw the storm coming; all they knew was that when they woke up on Thursday, the sky was a dark grey.
Christine was the first awake. From her position in the upper bunk, she could clearly see around the window curtain. Woah, she thought. Leaning over the side so that her head and torso were hanging off, she bent down and whispered, "Dan!"
"Aghh!" The boy woke up, startled, staring at the upside down face of his best friend. "What are you doing?" he mumbled, tired, confused, and partially amused.
"Look outside. At the sky," Christine whispered. Dan tiptoed out of his bed and moved the curtain aside, peering through the window at the darkened sky. By now, it had begun to rain.
"Woah...is there, like, a storm coming?" Daniel breathed.
"Well what do you think?" she teased, hopping down off her bed.
"W-what's going on?" Lilla mumbled, sitting up and running a hand through her tangled mop of curls.
"There's a storm coming," Christine replied, gesturing to outside. Lilla got up and saw for herself. She was shocked.
"So...what's the plan for today? I'm assuming beach is out?" Lilla asked. They thought for a moment, before Dan snapped his fingers, having figured out a plan.
"Christine? Did you bring the movies?" He turned to her. She contemplated the question before smiling and nodding.
"If by 'the movies,' you mean the movie adaptations of Broadway musicals," she began. "Then yes."
"Awesome." Dan smiled. "So, you guys wanna go to the living room and watch them? Or just stay here and use our TV?"
"Um, let's use the living room. That TV's bigger," Lilla suggested.
"Okay. Just warning you, though, my brother might come if we're in the living room," he said.
"Eh, that's alright. We all love musicals here, don't we?" Christine replied, smirking. Lilla and Dan walked upstairs to make popcorn, so Christine began setting up. She grabbed her movie bag and carried it to the living room. She quickly ran upstairs to ask the others what movie they wanted to start with.
"Pick whichever, Chris," Lilla called. Christine hurried back downstairs and took out Les Miserables. After she figured out the DVD player, Christine tried to find the remote control.
"So what did you choose?" Dan asked as he and Lilla came downstairs with two huge bowls of popcorn.
"Les Miserables," Christine responded.
"The actor who plays Gavroche is really cool, you know," he noted, smiling.
They started the movie and turned out the lights so it was like a movie theatre. After about an hour, they silently agreed they should be singing along.
"Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men, it is the music of the people who will not be slaves again!" they all sang.
"What are you guys doing?" Tom Huttlestone asked. Christine paused the movie, while Dan turned around.
"Having a movie musical marathon, so do you mind?" Dan sneered, gesturing for his brother to leave.
"Ugh, fine. Mom, Dad, and I are going out for ice cream, so you three can have the whole house to yourselves. Then you can sign as loud as you want." Tom turned and walked back upstairs.
After Les Mis, they watched Shrek the Musical, Annie, then Grease.
"Okay, now can we watch Into the Woods?" Lilla begged. Christine laughed, then agreed.
"I heard the actors of Jack and Red Riding Hood were great," Christine said, laughing. They put the disc in, then the singing began.
"And I know things now, many valuable things that I hadn't known before. Do not put your faith in a cape and a hood, they will not protect you the way that they should," Lilla sang.
After that, they went upstairs for dinner, then came back down for Chicago, Newsies, and West Side Story.
"Okay I've got one more," Christine said. "I've got Phantom if you're interested."
"Oh my gosh, yes!" Lilla squealed. Due to the fact that it was 3 in the morning, Lilla fell asleep half way through. Christine leaned back, her head against Dan's chest as they softly sang along.
"Promise me that all you say is true, that's all I ask of you," she sang quietly.
"Anywhere you go let me go too. Christine, that's all I ask of you," Dan chorused softly. Christine turned around and looked up at him.
"Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime."
"I love you, Christine," Dan said, kissing her.
"I love you, too," she said, kissing him back.
"That's all I ask of you."
