"Are you going to the dance tomorrow?" Cassidy asked Sophie.

"Uh, I don't know. I mean, if someone asked me, I would obviously say yes, but I don't know about otherwise," she replied.

"You should ask Cole," Cassidy suggested. Immediately, Sophie shook her head, no.

     "Absolutely not," she said.

"Ugh, why not?" Cassidy complained. Sophie rolled her eyes.

"He would never say yes. It would totally ruin our friendship."

"No way! He totally likes you."

Sophie felt herself blush. "You really think so?"

     "I know so," Cassidy said.

"Oh my gosh, tha- no. If he does like me, he'll ask me. Otherwise, I'll just stay home...like last year."

Cassidy and Sophie walked the rest of the way home, then split when they reached their houses. Sophie went upstairs to her bedroom, and turned on the TV. She heard a knock on the front door, but figured that her mom would get it. Sophie heard her talk to someone, then she heard footsteps coming up the stairs.

There was a knock on Sophie's door, and she rushed to tidy up. Out if breath, she opened the door to find Cole Pendery, dressed in a suit and holding a bunch of roses.

     "Cole?"

"Sophie," he began, bending down on one knee. "Will you do me the honor of being my date to the dance tomorrow?"

"Cole, I-I would... I-I... yes," she said, blushing. He stood up and handed her the roses.

"So, I'll pick you up tomorrow at six?"

"I'll see you then," Sophie replied, smiling.
