Sebastian's POV

Valeria just couldn't seem to say no to anyone.

I at least understood why to Poppy. She spent more time with her than anyone outside of me and Ominis.

I laid in bed waiting for nightfall to come before I would see her again.

I know she didn't want to talk about Fig. But a part of me believed there were aspects of her battle with Ranrok that she had yet to share.

Why? I don't know. We shared that trait though. I still hasn't confined in her or Ominis that I wasn't through searching for a cure for Anne. Even if she isn't speaking to me right now.

I meant it when I said I was going to cure my sister.

And I'd already begun my research again. I just didn't know how they'd take it just yet.

Regardless I wasn't going to let it get in my way of being there for Valeria. She's much more closed off than people think. I've heard her described as the garden snake of Slytherin.

She helps everyone. She wears her heart on her sleeve. But I know she keeps her true thoughts to herself unless it's necessary to share them. Or she's passionate about something.

I liked that about her. It's how I knew to understand her reasoning at times. Last year, I should have listened. And she knows that. I'm just lucky she isn't punishing me for ignoring her warnings. And instead she knew I needed a friend.

I picked up my wand as I sat up and stared at it. I hadn't really casted defensive spells since I killed my uncle.

That was the last time I dueled. And while I may face a duel tonight I wasn't sure how ready or how much help I was even gonna be for Valeria.

I swore to myself I'd protect her. Especially tonight. But I know I could be rusty.

" all ready for your date?" Ominis commented as he walked into our dorm.

" Date?" My nose scrunched up in confusion. " Yes. I've just now decided I like Val, and I figured what better way to express my adoration for her than to risk death together?" I rolled my eyes.

" It's poachers against Hogwarts best Duelist and a wizard who possesses ancient magic. I'd bet on you two over a few Niffler killers any day." Ominis reasoned.

He had a point. We made a good, and possibly unbeatable team.

" Still. Be careful." He sighed.

I nodded. " I won't let anything happen to her." I whispered.

" And you watch yourself too, please." Ominis followed up.

" I'll be fine." I said as I left.

I was lost in thought as I strolled through the common room. Some students sat studying or gossiping. With nothing better to do I guess.
