16. The Final Push

My footsteps lightly echoed up and down the hallway of the library. I gently bit at the tip of my finger trying to think of what I was going to say to Sebastian.

I'd given him and Ominis their space the rest of the weekend. Never even running into them once. I was worried but genuinely had no idea where to begin with what happened. I was still processing meeting my aunt. An exact copy of my mother. But an entirely different being.

I wasn't sure whether to trust her or not yet. But Sebastian's confession of still searching for a cure And Ominis' lie, were taking priority for me now.

Ominis' owl suddenly flew by and dropped a letter right into my hands.

" Valeria,

Can you meet me in the undercroft as soon as possible? Sebastian still isn't talking to me.

I don't know what to do. I feel awful.

-Ominis Gaunt"

I sighed of some relief to finally hear from one of the boys.

I packed up my books and stashed Ominis' letter in my pocket as I made my way out of the library.

" Did you hear she slept with Knightengale and then Sallow in less than 24 hours?"

I stopped dead in my tracks.

I could hear a girl and two guys giggling amongst themselves on the other side of the bookcase.

Why did it feel like they were speaking of me?

" Seriously though I don't know whether to be impressed or disgusted." The girl giggled.

A boy suddenly spoke up. " Yeah Nightengale was discussing it in the common room after the ball. Said Valeria cheated on him with Sallow and he caught them in the act AT the ball." He snickered.

I could feel a pit in my stomach begin to form. As well as anger begin to build.

I stood up straight and looked at the bookcase and gave a book a shove sending it to the floor on the other side where they were speaking.

The stoped and questioned where it came from as I approached them on the other side.

The boys, Gryffindor. The girl a Ravenclaw.

" I apologize. I didn't mean to interrupt your conversation about me." I said bitterly.

The girl suddenly snickered. " Oh you're in for it now boys."

They just laughed. " Valeria! You making your rounds? Deciding which house is best in bed?" The tall Gryffindor asked.

The other one only grinned. " If you need a second opinion for Gryffindor, I bet can convince you." He winked.

" How dare you!" I said, disgusted. " Whatever you've been told is not true in the slightest. Honestly don't you have better things to do than come up with ridiculous rumors?" I spat.

" it's not a Rumor." The shorter Gryffindor scoffed. " Everyone know it. Knightengale told us!"

Why would Jasper say something like this? I thought he was my friend. Surly there has to be a mistake of some sort. Maybe he was misunderstood.

" Jasper would never. That's ridiculous!" I scoffed.

The ravenclaw rolled her eyes. " Okay even if he's lying how can you explain arriving to the ball with Jasper, and then leaving with Sebastian?" She laughed.
