Sebastian noticed something when we fought the poachers.
And it was scaring me.
The truth is, I hadn't spoken a word to anyone what happened after I defeated Ranrok.
I didn't know what anyone would think had I told them I absorbed his power. And it resides within me.
I had the choice to re-contain his power. But I opted against it. The way I saw it was if it's contained that's just more evil wizards or goblins or other beings' motivation to get their hands on it.
If it resides within me. No one can steal it. And if they kill me trying. I'd imagine it dies with me.
The problem is I had no clue what the side effects could be of holding onto this power.
Sebastian mentioned something about my eyes.
The times I'd face Ranrok his eyes glowed red with ancient magic. At least I thought that's what it was. I wasn't sure if anyone else saw what I saw in Ranrok. But if Sebastian saw my eyes do the same. Then something was wrong.
There's also the concern that when I fought the poachers I felt euphoric.
I didn't want to stop. I didn't tell Sebastian that. I couldn't. As soon as I saw them and thought about what they did. And all the pain they caused. I had to stop them. By any means necessary.
I was glad Sebastian dropped the subject for the moment as we searched the camp. He covered one tent, I covered the other.
As I looked around, I found old ' receipts' for animals. Letters of resource requests. Disgusting. I could feel my blood begin to boil.
" Val!" Sebastian yelled out of breath as he rushed into the tent I was searching. " I found something. They're still searching for ancient magic!" He exclaimed.
" What?" I stepped towards him and read the note.
It came from someone called " Atlas".
" Whose Atlas?" I furrowed my brow as I read on through the note.
It described a possibility of creating a tool that could extract magic from a wizard. The instructions mentioned a piece of the tool that's hidden away with Niffler's.
" That's why they want the Niffler's" I murmured as my blood ran cold.
I was right. There's still dark beings in this world who would do anything to get their hands on the power that resides within me. But even worse, They know I absorbed it. And they wanted it.
This was all fresh. I couldn't even decipher the terminology the note used just yet. Just that whatever they were searching for, Niffler's had a part of the puzzle.
Then I'd assume they'd make haste to come after me.
" If I'm understanding this nonsense the poachers seem to have been hired by this Atlas fellow to search for an object that will lead him to stealing you abilities." Sebastian theorized.
I nodded " That's exactly what this sounds like." I muttered.
" HEY! What are you—" a voice boomed through the tend.
Sebastian took a defensive stance in front of me. Holding his arm out keeping himself between me and the returned poacher.
" You!" He exlclaimed. " Do you know how much I'll get for you! More than I'd get for whatever those blasted Niffers got." He snorted reading his wand.
