"How can you accept your fate to be mated to a man who is dangerous? How can you be so damn sure that he won't spend the rest of his days doing things to hurt you? How can you be so sure that the beast won't rape you every chance that he gets? Don't you want to be mated to a mate that will spend the rest of their life, treating you like the queen that you are meant to be? Don't you want that," Cayden asked.

"I didn't ask for this. I didn't ask for any of this. I didn't ask for both of my parents to die, leaving the only bar in Lupine Ridge, to be run by my two sisters and I. I didn't ask for Connor to go sniffing around my younger sister, Angelina asking to claim her as his mate for the peace treaty. Shit, did you think that I had a damn clue that Connor was sitting in Mayor Robinson's office? If I had known, I would have waited to speak to Mayor Robinson, though if Angelina were to have been chosen to go through with the mating ceremony to Connor, I still would have made the sacrifice, just so Angelina would be free. I can't allow Connor to break Angelina. She's not strong enough to be with someone like Connor," Equin said.

"I'm sure Angelina would have learned how to deal with Connor and his brutal ways. She's a smart girl," Cayden said.

"I agree that Angelina is smart, but not smart enough to deal with Connor. Connor has years of experience to get exactly what he wants. That and Angelina fears Connor. I can't subject her to marry a man that she fears. You're just going to have to accept it," Equin said.

"Now why don't the both of you calm down. I don't need either of you destroying my house. If either of you break anything, I'll break both of you. Don't put it past me either. I may be old, but I am a tough woman," Clara spoke up reminding the younger wolves that she and John were still in the living room with them.

Equin turned her attention to Clara. "You have nothing to worry about Clara. I would never dream of destroying your beautiful home. Since I'm here, why don't we make our way to the kitchen and make lunch for these boys? I'm sure they're hungry and would appreciate a good meal to fill their bellies before they have to head out and do their daily chores." Both Equin and Clara made their way to the kitchen.

John smiled while shaking his head at the retreating women. "Boy, you are damn lucky. If Clara hadn't spoken up the way that she did, you would have witnessed the temper that Equin keeps reserved for those who she feels deserve it.

"You don't think Equin wouldn't have done anything harsh, do you," Cayden asked.

"That is something that we will never know. Nor is it something that I ever want to find out," John said.

Kino stood hidden by a tree, watching as Equin talk to someone who wasn't in view. Boy, I don't know who the hell she is talking to, but I know it's never a good thing to anger Equin. She is one of the few pure wolves left that can still shift. I know for sure that Connor won't be too happy to learn that the unmated male's scent is all over this place. It mixes in with the Tollerman's scent, Kino thought to himself before driving off to the camp where he knew Connor would be.

When Kino got to the camp and noticed Connor wasn't there, he decided to make his way to the bar, where he knew was another place that Connor would be hanging out.

Angelina had kept shooting worried glances over at the table where Connor was seated with the rest of his guys. I hope Equin was successful in getting to John and Clara's place, Angelina thought to herself.

Gail noticed Angelina staring over at Connor. Thinking quickly Gail smacked Angelina on the shoulder breaking Angelina from her trance like state.

"Was that seriously necessary for you to do," Angelina asked.
