Chapter 14

Clara, John and Cayden all looked at each other a bit confused for a moment, before Clara spoke up. "Why would Angelina need to go speak to Mayor Robinson?"

"Angelina learned the truth," Gail said.

"The truth about what," John asked.

"She learned the truth about how Connor had set his sights on Equin before she entered Mayor Robinson's office. Angelina believed that Mayor Robinson was in on Connor's plan to mate Equin the whole time," Gail said.

"So, you mean to tell me that had Connor not stalked your sister Equin, she would be free to make anyone that she deems fit," Cayden asked.

"That's exactly what I'm saying," Gail said.

"Then we have to stop Equin from going through with the mating ceremony to Connor," Cayden said.

"Then we all better be ready for a bloodbath. Connor is going to go on the attack, and will force Equin into mating with him," Clara said.

"Don't speak like that Clara," John said.

"You heard what Gail said. She said that Connor has had his eye on Equin for quite some time now. Who is to say that he will let her go willingly," Clara asked.

"Then I will fight for Equin's safety. Because there is no way in hell that I'm going to let her be with a man who has been following her around. I believe Equin should have say in who her mate should be," Cayden said.

"Oh my god, you have feelings for Equin," Gail said.

"So, what if I have feelings for Equin? It's not like it's a big deal," Cayden said.

"Angelina has a crush on you. If she finds out that you like Equin instead of her, it's going to crush her heart," Gail said.

"Maybe I can have a talk with Angelina when we find her," Cayden said.

"Why don't you hold off on that talk. Wait until you speak to Equin and see how she feels about you. If she doesn't feel the same about you as you do her, then maybe you can learn to love Angelina," Gail said hoping Cayden would end up with Angelina. Gail doesn't want Angelina hating Equin over something that she doesn't have control over. That and she wants to be sure on what Equin wants for herself. After all, when this is done and over with, she may not want to mate with anyone for a while. So, you could be getting your hopes up for nothing," Gail said.

"Maybe, but I will still be there for Equin, so that way she has someone to lean on while she talks about everything that is going on with her, and what she's going through right now. Nothing you say or do will change my mind," Cayden said.

"What if you end up putting both Equin and Angelina in danger by being reckless? Are you going to be able to live with yourself knowing that you could have prevented them from getting hurt," Gail asked.

"Cayden, Gail has a point. We can't go marching in there and expect Connor to not use the girls as leverage. We have to be smart about this. We have to think of a way to get into Connor's camp and save them," John said, causing Gail to look at him in confusion.

"What makes you think that Connor also has Angelina? He's made it clear to everyone that he wants Equin. It doesn't make sense to me that Connor would go and take Angelina along with Equin," Gail rambled.

"I see where John is going. Yes, Connor made it clear to everyone that he wasn't interested in mating Angelina. But he also is not a stupid man. Connor most likely has Angelina to keep Equin from getting out of control. Think about it. If Equin were to say or do something that Connor doesn't like, he could always use Angelina as leverage to get Equin back under control. But Connor also wouldn't make it obvious that he has Angelina. He will keep Angelina hidden away from Equin until he's absolutely sure that the timing is right for the mating ceremony," John explained.
