Chapter 2- Unsuccessful Shopping

"Oh God, you are the weirdest person I've ever met", Natasha snapped when I told her that I still had feelings for Jasper. "Don't you remember what he did to you? Like really?"

I remained silent. I knew that whatever I said, Natasha was never going to understand me. What did she know about love anyway?

We were walking down the corridor towards our classroom. Today was supposed to be a Sunday but I don't know why we were having a class. Strange.

As we moved through chattering groups of boys and girls, I suddenly saw Jasper coming towards me. Oh my God, he looked none less than Tom Cruise from Mission Impossible 3.

Giving a million dollar smile, he said to me,"Good morning!"

But... wait. This wasn't Jasper's voice. He sounded like a girl!

Before I could say anything,he again opened his mouth. "Wake up Bookie! It's half past nine in the morning!"

Why was he calling me bookie? Only Natasha said that...

"I'm already awake Jasper. . .", I began to say but all of a sudden I felt a splash of cold water on my face.

"What the.....?!", I opened my eyes with a rush. I saw a thin girl with a pixie haircut standing with a bucket in her hands.

"Natasha!", I shouted which caused her to back off like she'd unleashed a monster. I didn't mean to shout but I was so startled by the water shower that it just happened.

"Dreaming about Jasper I suppose?", Natasha asked although she knew my answer.

"Yeah I was...", I answered in a sleepy tone. Slowly I got out of the bed and moved towards the wash room.

"I will never understand what girls just see in him", I heard Natasha mumble as I slammed the door behind me.

"So what are you doing here?", I asked as I took a sip of orange juice kept on the table.

We were sitting on our small dining table, eating whatever was kept on it.

"Your Mum asked me to come over and go shopping with you", She answered. "She even gave me money... I mean babysitting salary", She added with a broad grin and received a graceful eyeroll from me.

"Where are my parents anyway?", I asked, looking around to see.

"They've gone somewhere.. I don't remember the name...", She said. "Some aunt of yours is sick"

Must be Aunt Marie. She's always falling sick.

"Well at least one Sunday will be spent peacefully", I sighed.

"It's awesome", Natasha remarked.

"Yeah it is", I replied, yawning and stretching my arms.

"Tastes so exotic!"

"Yea... What?", I looked up to see what she was talking about. It was the sandwich my mum had made.

"God...", I said rolling my eyes once again. "You're impossible!"

She gave a grin in answer, showing all of her teeth which, I must tell you, were covered with pieces of vegetables, cheese and a whole lot of saliva.

"Eww! Disgusting!", I said, looking away. I wonder why she hasn't been awarded 'The Dirtiest Person Alive' award yet (if something like that even exists)

"What do you think of this red top?", I asked holding it up so that Natasha could see it.

We two were at the Wall-mart, shopping.

"Not bad but....", She paused to search the second shelf. "...this is better don't you think?"

I looked distastefully at the deep-blue dress in her hands. Then I gave her a look which said, "Are you out of your mind?"

The dress was-

(a)very, very,VERY short. I doubt if it would even cover my undies.

(b)low-cut. Period.

"Oh come on!", She exclaimed, tossing the dress into the air which unfortunately landed on a grumpy-looking girl's face. She swore loudly, making others stare at her.

We quickly sprinted out of the scene.

"I give up!', Natasha said to me. "Shopping with you is like spending time with Jackie. So damn boring"

"Ha ha... LOL!", I said, laughing. But when she gave me a look, I shut up. Well I can't help it if I talk in text language sometimes, can I?

We scanned the mall once more but then we realized that it was not our day at all and so went to Pizza House instead. Pure happiness on a plate, I tell you!

"Your parents are home by now probably", Natasha said thoughtfully.

It was 5pm. The sun was all ready to go down. People were hurrying home and couples were walking slowly, holding each other's hands. It was a beautiful twilight.

"Yeah they are", I said as we reached my house and saw the porch light turned on.

"Well, bye then", She said. Giving me a hug, she started walking towards her house which was two blocks away.

"By the way, why did we shop today?", I asked loudly, as she was already hopping away. Mum never allowed me to shop without a special reason.

"Look at the calendar and you'll find out!", She shouted back.

I shrugged as I entered the door and started to go upstairs.

"You're home!", Mum said when she saw me.

"Hi Mom!" I said.

"Well, did you buy anything?", She asked, her eyes twinkling.

"Yeah, I bought happiness. For my stomach" I shouted and closed the door of my room before she could ask anymore question. I could only assume how her look would've been.

Looking at the calendar beside my bed, I started mumbling to myself, "Today is eighteenth June so tomorrow is... My birthday!"

So that's why we were shopping!

My birthday was so insignificant to everyone except Natasha (and sometimes my parents) that I'd lost that 'Yaaay it's my birthday' vibe long ago. I was just a nobody- and my birthday was nothing special either. Still, I couldn't help but wonder what fate had in her mind for me tomorrow.

Something good, I hoped.
