Chapter 21- Birthday Bash?
The enormous mansion in front of which I stood looked no less than some kind of a celebrity's house. It appeared much brighter than it actually was, against the slowly darkening sky, added that it was decorated with many cute multicolored ornamental lights. Numerous festoons of small flowers adorned the entrance of the house. A faint hubbub could be heard coming from inside the house.
-Magnificent would still be an understatement for it.
The Collins were pretty rich. I mean, this party is just the perfect example. Sharon wasn't totally wrong when she called it 'the biggest party of the year in the town'. It really was.
I let out a breath as I entered through the shimmering gates towards the house. An air of uneasiness was draping itself over me as I ran my hands on my skirt to smoothen it. Should I really go inside? was the question hovering in my mind. Somehow it didn't feel quite right- my gut instinct was nudging me over and over again.
"Wait up Jackie!" I suddenly heard someone call behind me and at once, I turned around.
A slender figure wearing a strapless, white pencil dress with a black sash approached towards me. She wore matching black high heels and was carrying a greyish handbag which gave a classy essence to her appearance. Her brown hair was made into a neat fish-tail braid which rested effortlessly on her bare right shoulder.
In a nutshell, Sharon looked simply glamorous.
I thought about my own dressing and shuddered at the thought. I'd worn a simple red dress with red wedges. I hadn't worked much with my hair too and simply put it in a high pony. For someone who had never even touched a mascara, my make-up was pretty good (or at least, that's what I thought before Sharon showed up). Even Beth wasn't available to be my personal stylist for the day...
"You know what? You look b-e-a-utiful!" Sharon said as she reached the point where I was standing, using the much charming Jim Carrey style. Except that she was lying.
I shrugged at her remark, not being flattered or anything. "And you look like crap"
Her mouth literally hung open.
"Oh god, I'm kidding Sharon" I said as I fake-laughed, though I probably wanted it to to be true. "You look marvellous. And, love those heels by the way"
"Oh yeah..." she replied as she smiled, visibly relaxing. "Thanks"
"Let's go inside, it's a bit cold here outside" I suggested, rubbing my palms on my arms.
Sharon nodded in agreement and we both made our way towards the entrance. I could see many familiar faces from school but never did I find Natasha or even Travis.
Soon we found ourselves inside the big mansion, inside which music was blaring on from all the sides. People were busy dancing or drinking or even making out. I squeezed through the crazy mob and then I saw Jasper chatting with some people, probably his footballer friends. As I reached the spot, one of his friends whispered something to him and he turned around.
"Heyyy!" He greeted, dragging the word much longer than needed. He's a bit crocked, I realized.
"Happy birthday Jesse" I said smiling as I went in for a side-hug. He hugged me, all right, but his gaze was somewhere else completely.
"Sharon" he said, as if the word had escaped his mouth on its own. The way he was looking behind me, it seemed as if he was hypnotized or something.
I turned my head around and saw Sharon ambling towards us, blushing like some humanoid beetroot.
What the actual heck?
