"Because sometimes, all we wish is to be someone else..."
For 17-year-old Felicia Portman, being like Jackie Johnson was the most amazing thing she could dream about...
Jackie is perfect- Good looks, good brains and a too-good-to-be-true boyfriend...
Yes, you heard me right. That's what I got. That's what I got for respecting someone's wishes. For attempting to do something sweet for the one I love. FOR DANCING!
I should've known what was going to happen. I mean, who can really dance with extra-small, stupid ballet shoes? Curse you, Beth.
I looked at my bandage covered left foot- which actually looked like that of a mummy- distastefully. Such a disturbing sight. I tried to move it a little to the right which only resulted in me crying, "OUCCH!"
I don't think even a second passed before Mrs. Johnson came barging into the neat and clean hospital room where I was kept, shouting, "What happened to my one and only princess daughter?!" Behind her was the doctor who was responsible for the horrible mummy-like appearance of my foot.
Well, this was awkward. Princess daughter? Sheesh.
"I was just trying to move it", I admitted. This made Maggie's face change and she sighed with relief. She pushed back a thin, blond strand of hair from her face and sat on the bed close to me. Keeping her hand on my cheek lovingly, she said, "You'll be okay hmm?" I smiled weakly and nodded in response.
Dr. Kimberly, as the nameplate on his apron read, added, "She's already getting better. Maybe we can discharge her tomorrow"
"Really?", Maggie asked, turning around to face the doctor. "That would be so great. She can rest in the house"
After a few minutes of conversation between Maggie and the doctor, the door clicked open and Larry Johnson came inside.
"Oh, Mr. Johnson. Nice to see you", the doctor greeted. "Hello Dr Kimberly", Larry greeted back. They both shook hands although I could tell that Larry was not really interested in talking with him.
He rushed towards me, a worried expression on his face. Before he could ask 'What happened?', I said bluntly, "Ankle sprain and head injury"
"A minor one though", Said the moron doctor. Larry just rolled his eyes at his remark, which kinda made me smile.
After having a father-daughter conversation-which was filled with lots of touchy-feely things- with him, a nurse came in to call them for the payment procedure. Just as they were leaving, I remembered something.
"Larr. . . Dad?", I called. Larry paused midway and turned around.
"I- I'm sorry", I apologised. He looked at me with confusion for a moment but then he remembered that day's incident. He smiled and said, "It's okay, honey"
And then the door shut and I was left alone with my thoughts again.
Half an hour later, the Bimbos came to visit.
Beth's reaction, when she saw my foot, was pretty hilarious. Her mouth opened to such an extent that a housefly could enter through it and her eyes seemed like they were going to pop out any moment now.
She looked so ridiculous that way that I couldn't resist myself from saying, "Stop that Beth, you look weird"
At once, her face changed and she asked, "Huh? What?"
"Nothing", I said laughing.
"So... Is it a broken bone?", Sarah asked, raising her eyebrows. "Nah... A sprain", I replied shortly.
We talked about the competition for a long time. We had lost of course, all thanks to me. Some Diana and William were the winners.
We all chatted till evening, when Maggie brought coffee and snacks for us. After that they all exited, leaving a bouquet of lilies and a 'Get Well Soon' card on the table beside my bed. They weren't so bad, I thought. But then I suddenly remembered who I was and let out a sad laugh.
All the people around me only cared about how I looked and what I wore. No one cared about what I wanted, what I felt, what I was like from inside... No one... Well, you get my point.
No one's concern was actually real. With the exception of Maggie and Larry maybe.
I looked at the door, Expecting Jasper to come. He hadn't even called. Guess he's just mad. But at least he should've called one time right? Just to make sure I was alive or not. . .
"Hey", I heard a girl's voice beside me. "Whoa!", I exclaimed, completely shocked. And when I saw the person, I was even more shocked.
This was totally unexpected.
"Why are you acting like a freak? I just came to visit by like a very nice person and all I get is a 'Whoa'?", Natasha said tonelessly.
"How did you... How did you enter the room without me seeing?!"
"Umm... Through a portal, maybe?". Her sarcasm was clear. "You were so lost in your dream world that you didn't even see me?"
Ignoring her remark, I said, "Glad that you came. . . It was getting boring here"
"You two lost", she said with a sly grin, completely ignoring my remark just like I ignored hers.
"Oh god! Really? I didn't know. . . Thank you so very much Natasha", I said over-sarcastically.
She just threw her head back and laughed. Idiot.

Time flew by as we talked. It was so nostalgic that it almost made me cry. I hadn't realised that I missed her so badly.
"So tell me", I said, "Why did you decide to come here? I mean, you hate me right?"
She bit her lip, thinking. "I don't hate you", she said, which was of course, a lie. "After what you told me that day, I felt pitiful. So I came here to see you"
Before I could respond, She exclaimed, "Holy shit! I gotta go... Mum would kill me!"
"Oh... Alright... Thanks for coming by", I said, smiling.
And then she got up and left the room. "Maybe I can sleep now", I said to myself. Pulling the blanket up, I passed out. Just like that.
