The warm rays of the setting sun bathed the picturesque countryside as Yashaswini and Vihaan embarked on a drive, taking a leisurely trip down memory lane. The wind tousled Yashaswini's hair, making her appear ethereal, while Vihaan couldn't help but steal glances at her beauty.
Yashaswini's eyes wandered nervously around the car, her gaze filled with a mix of emotions. After a moment, she mustered the courage to meet Vihaan's gaze.
"Nine years," she whispered, her voice tinged with both sadness and relief.
Startled, Vihaan leaned closer. "What?" he asked softly, his heart racing with anticipation.
"That's how long I hadn't been home," Yashaswini revealed, her voice laced with vulnerability. "This is the first time I've come back since I left."
Vihaan's mind raced to comprehend the weight of her words. He knew of the difficulties she had faced with her father and the lingering pain that haunted her. But this revelation painted a clearer picture, leaving him speechless for a moment. Yashaswini's unresolved issues had kept her away from her childhood home, and now, standing before it once more, she was confronted with the echoes of the past.
"No!" Vihaan's voice trembled, his eyes filled with concern. "Why didn't you ever come back?"
Yashaswini sighed, her gaze fixed on the familiar surroundings. "I couldn't... It wasn't for lack of trying, though. I called my Mai occasionally, checking on her well-being. But I couldn't bring myself to return here, Vihaan. It was too difficult, too ugly, too painful."
Vihaan's heart ached as he listened to her words. He reached out, wanting to provide comfort, but she withdrew her hand.
"It didn't have to be that way, Yashu," Vihaan insisted gently, his voice filled with sincerity. "I understand why you felt the need to run away, but running wasn't the solution."
Yashaswini's face contorted with pain, her eyes brimming with tears. "Why are you saying this now? When I can't change anything? Are you trying to rub my mistakes in my face? To prove that I was wrong?"
Quickly realizing his mistake, Vihaan regretted his choice of words. "No, Yashu, that's not what I meant. I'm sorry."
A flicker of vulnerability crossed Yashaswini's features as she glanced at Vihaan. "I had to go, Vihaan. I had to," she pleaded, her voice filled with desperation. "At that time, I truly believed that leaving was the only way to forget and start anew. I thought it was the path to reclaiming some semblance of normalcy. You can't possibly understand what I went through."
Vihaan's voice softened, laced with empathy. "But I do, Yashu. Trust me, I do." He reached out, hoping to bridge the emotional chasm between them, but Yashaswini pulled away, her defenses still intact.
Tears shimmered in Yashaswini's eyes as she whispered, "You don't."
Undeterred, Vihaan persisted. He knew he had to prove his understanding, to dissolve her pain and doubts. Gently, he took her hand, his touch both tender and reassuring.
