Draco's breath hitched as a surge of anger pulsed through him, his Veela heritage intensifying in response to Harry's distress. "That despicable man deserves to suffer," he growled out through clenched teeth. "I swear on everything that I will do whatever it takes to ensure you never find yourself in that wretched place again!"

"Promise?" Harry's voice trembled with hope, aware of the simplicity yet significance of the word.

Draco's gaze softened, his own emotions intertwining with Harry's. "I promise," he replied earnestly.

Both of them sat there in silence for a while before Harry chose to speak up again. "You never asked if I've reconsidered joining Voldemort," he spoke softly, his words hanging in the air.

Draco's gaze softened, his sincerity shining through. "I'm not doing this with the sole intention of swaying you to our side," he responded earnestly. "I genuinely care about you, Harry. I wouldn't be here, having this conversation, if I didn't."

"When you first asked me, I wasn't inclined to join," Harry confessed. "And what Mattheo did only confirmed my decision then. I never fully trusted Dumbledore, but now I can't stand alongside him anymore."

Draco's eyes widened with a sense of urgency. "Wait, hold on! Before you make your decision, I need to tell you something. The stunt Mattheo pulled, it was my idea."

Harry's eyes widened in disbelief "It was YOUR idea! You decided to kill them. I knew that you worked for the dark lord but I didn't think that you could kill people. They were innocent. They hadn't done anything"

"I should have told you this sooner,"  Draco's voice carried a mixture of regret and honesty. "You're right about a few things though. I do work for the Dark Lord, and I have taken lives before. But let me explain. Those individuals weren't innocent. That is the problem – they didn't do anything. And no, I didn't kill them; I was in charge of who died. Mundungus Fletcher, an ex-order member. His duty was to keep an eye on you and ensure your safety. Instead of watching you, he went off to bars, got drunk and gambled off his money. Amelia Bones, she was the head of the Department of Child Welfare. She knew about the abuse. Children are considered a blessing in the wizarding world so child abuse cases among purebloods are rare and severely condemned, as they risk the development of an obscurus. She knew about everything but still chose to keep her mouth shut because Dumbledore said so and it wasn't like she had threatened her. She did it willingly because she had a crush on him, I am sure of it. Percy Weasley was not my choice though; it was Mattheo's. He decided that Weasley needed to be put in his place"

Draco's words fell on Harry's ears as he slowly comprehended what Draco had said, realizing that Draco had done this for him.

Harry just sat there trying to believe the fact that Draco had done this for him; that Draco had committed such acts on his behalf. The fact that he didn't even get a birthday present for most of his life and now Draco had gone to such lengths, even killing those who had caused him harm. It was hard for him to comprehend. Draco had done all of this for him, the least he could do for him was not fight against him.

"I want to join," said Harry

"Are you sure? There is no need to be hasty. You can take your time."
