Chapter ten: protection

Rose's POV:

I couldn't sleep at all that night. Everytime I closed my eyes, all the abuse, I had to endure my entire life came back to my head. All of these images terrified me. From the mistreatment from my parents to the horrible things Billie has done. I was used to seeing these things in my dreams but this night was even worse. I saw Madison... She laid in her bed, dreaming about me until a dark creature got on top of her and slit her throat.

I couldn't bare this any longer. My eyes opened widely and I started screaming as loud as I could while my entire body was shaking. I heard someone running into the room. They pulled me into their arms and tried to calm me down. "Shhhh it's alright Rose. It was just a nightmare. It wasn't real.", Melanie tried to comfort me by holding me close to her and kissing my head.

"No it wasn't!! I know it was real!! Madison!! Madison is dead!! I know it! I saw it! Billie... Billie killed her!!", I screamed in panic. Melanie continued to kiss my head while she rubbed my back. "It was just a dream. Everything is fine.", she said but I knew there was no way Billie wouldn't have done something to Madison. "No... Madison...", I whimmered out while I was shivering. Melanie carefully laid me back down on the bed and holded me in her arms.

"You have to sleep Rose. It was just a dream.", she said and ran her hands through my hair while she started humming some melodies. This somehow calmed me down and I slowly closed my eyes. Melanie might have been crazy enough to be friends with Billie but she was much sweeter than her and I really needed that. I knew I shouldn't trust her but I felt so alone right now, that I just wanted to be comforted.

When I woke up, I noticed that Melanie was gone and I instanly panicked. I jumped out of the bed and started running through the entire house until I saw her in the kitchen. She flinched when she saw how terrified I was and I quickly hugged her very tight. "Rose what happened?", she asked very worried and I sighed. "I don't know... After my dream I just got scared of being alone.", I said and she ran her hand through my hair.

"It's alright. You're safe here.", she said before she lead me to the kitchen table, where food was prepared for me. "I made you some vegan pancakes. You deserve that after your horrible dreams.", she said and smiled. I actually wasn't hungry at all but I didn't want to seem ungrateful, so I thanked her and ate it. "How long will I stay here?", I asked very hesitant since I didn't want to go back to Billie. "Billie will pick you up in the afternoon. She told me on the phone this morning. Let me look at your back.", she said and I hesitantly removed my night gown.

"It looks better now but I will put more cream on it.", she said and put the cream on her fingers before she gently rubbed it all over my back. "We still have some time left until Billie picks you up. What do you want to do?", she asked and I looked down. I really forgot how to have fun. "I know, let's get into the pool.", she said very excited and pulled me to her room. "I don't think I can go into the water with the cream on my back.", I said and she giggled.

"You only have to wait twenty minutes besides we can chill on the lounger for a while.", she said before she threw a bikini my way. "I think this one might fit. Tell me when you're done.", she said and I sighed before I went inside the bathroom. I quickly got changed and when I got out Melanie softly bit her lips. "Damn I was always salty that Billie saw you first but now I regret it even more.", she said and I blushed. "You shouldn't say things like that. Billie will get mad.", I told her since I knew that she must've done something to Madison.

"Don't worry, I would never take something away from Billie. She is my friend in the first place. I'm just teasing.", she said and grabbed my hand before she lead me to the pool. I had to admit that she looked good in her bikini as well but I really didn't care much about it. She laid down on a lounger and I wanted to lay down on the lounger next to her but she suddenly pulled me towards her, so that we both laid down on the same lounger.
