Chapter Forty

It's been four days since we last saw Negan. We have three days until he shows up to see us. Ever since that first night, I have only had the kids carry their guns. I woke up and made breakfast for everyone. Judith is officially a year old today. 

We sang happy birthday to her, before we went and did our own thing. 

"Mom, he's here." Carl told me.

"Athena, stay in the house with Judith." I told her.

I went outside and kept the kids close to me.

"Don't you dare leave my side." I told them.

I saw Saviors all around us. I pushed Isabelle and Carl behind me. Alec and Magnus were behind them. I kept my eye on the house.

"I need to go do something." Carl said.

"Be careful." I told him.

"Mom, what about Athena and Judith?" Isabelle asked.

"They'll be okay." I told her.

We heard a gunshot, and we followed it. It was the infirmary.

"Stay here." I told them as I went inside. I saw Carl holding a gun to Negan.

"Carl." I said.

"Well, hello, wolfie." Negan said.

I held my hand out and he passed the gun to me. I handed it to Negan.

"You know this reminds me that, you all have a lot of guns." Negan said.

I grabbed Carl and we left.

"Don't you ever do something that stupid again. Do you understand me?" I asked.

"I do." He said.

We went back to the others and Isabelle wrapped her arms around me. I kept a hand on my stomach, wrapping my other arm around her. Rick came over.

"Where are the girls?" He asked.

"In the house." I told him.

"Two guns are missing." He told me.

"I haven't taken them." I told him.

"I know, but I don't know who. I'm calling everyone to the church." He said.

I nodded and stood outside the church, with the kids. Soon, everyone came out and started searching. We searched Spencer's house and Rick found them. We went outside and saw a guy talking to Enid.

I walked over to them and picked up the balloons.

"What do you think you're doing?" The guy asked.

I grabbed Enid's hand and pushed her behind me. I growled.

"You're the wolf." He said.

I watched him step back and took Enid to the others. I handed her the balloons.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I will be." She said.

I nodded and kept her behind me. As Rick walked forward, I saw the trucks leave. I walked forward with the kids as we saw him about to leave. Rosita returned and I saw Rick go to teh house outside.

"Yo, Ms. Wolfe." I heard. "Come on over here." Negan said.

"You kids stay here." I told them. I walked forward and stood in front of him.

"Aren't wolves supposed to be skinny?" He asked.

"I'm pregnant." I told him.

He looked shocked.
