In a time of hurt, a deception so visceral
where nothing made sense, a denial.
A woman three times my age, quite unmissable,
has taught me the perks of survival.

Her words spewed kindess and glee,
and the whitest of grins
for us students to see.
She wanted us to build the toughest of skins.

She listened to my troubles with a sharp ear
and with her infinite wisdom she replied:
"Everything will be fine, my dear.
Let yourself drift, carried by the tide."

"Sometimes there is nothing you can do
but remember the good parts.
Release your grudges and try to understand who...
for your life, it is possible to restart."

How can any man begin without a guide?
I asked with humility.
It is harder to try when all you want is to hide.
I thought realistically.

Then the woman with the contagious laugh
said without worries or uncertainties:
"Do not fret on your behalf,
for when your life is full of possibilites."

To this day her doctrine stuck like glue
along with her charisma and intelligence.
My attitude towards the world was based on what I knew.
A chance. An oportunity to thrive with prevalence.
