XII. Role Reversal

Family always comes first – that's what Xavier's parents taught him and his sister as they grow up. It is something that was instilled in him that now that he's a grown man, no matter where he is or how important the business that he's dealing with, he will drop anything and everything as far as his family is concerned.

When he got a call from his Uncle Wallace, Alexandra's dad, asking him when was the last time he spoke with Alexandra and if he knew any occurrence of her condition he couldn't help but feel worried and restless knowing that Alexandra is living all by herself. His Uncle Wallace informed him about the appointment that Alexandra booked with her shrink. They both knew that she hasn't seen the doctor for a little over a year now and her seeing the doctor now brought some sort of havoc into Xavier's life.

Memories of Alexandra lying almost lifeless on her bathroom flood before his eyes. He was eighteen years old back then and was on his freshman year in college. He got a call from his mom about the accident that Alexandra and her personal driver, Uncle Carlos, got into which also led to the man's death. He wasn't able to come home to New Hampshire the day it happened due to his exams but as soon as they were all over, he hopped onto a plane from California to New Hampshire. The chauffeur dropped him off directly to the Legrand's mansion and as soon as they go there, he fled directly to the West end of the house which also shelters Alexandra's suite. When she didn't answer on the third knock, he knew there was something wrong so he broke into the room and found her lying on the bathroom floor. He was scared shitless when he couldn't hear her breathing. Paramedics came in, as well as their family, but no amount of comfort and assurance would take what he saw – the image of the girl he loves more than his life lying there and he couldn't do anything to protect her.

Because of that incident, he transferred to a university closer to home and made sure that he was always there for there as she recovered. Yet until this day, he wasn't really sure if she ever recovered. Two years of treatment, medication, and wellness program seemed like a joke. She was physically okay, Alexandra still hang-out with him and his sister as well as his brother but they all knew that the accident took something from her that they could never replace. It felt like she was a completely different person. And when she announced that she wanted to move away on her eighteenth birthday none of them said anything or stopped her. They knew that if they let her stay she would resent them and the last thing they all want is to lose the girl who used to light up their world, the girl that glued both of their families together and the most important person in all of their lives. But when she left, she took his heart with her without her even knowing it.

Upon receiving his Uncle's call Sunday morning, Dubai time, he immediately alerted his team and had his private plane ready for takeoff on the same day. The next 24 hours were equally excruciating as he almost caused an international incident when he directed the Captains to fly straight from Dubai to YVR but the clearance for takeoff they only have was the one that directs their flight from Dubai to Paris and it would take them three days to get a new clearance from the International Aeronautics Traffic Control. So Xavier made quick phone calls to his friends from Paris and one of them immediately set up for him to be able to fly to Canada. For once, Xavier was glad of the influence and power that his family have. Though he and sister were taught not to boast and to just always stay humble, Xavier knew when to exert his power and although his family is not equally rich as the Legrand's, they were still up on the societal quos that a mention of his and his dad's name on the business circle allows him to access anything that he wants his hand around.

For that same reason is why he managed to pull off a surprise for Alexandra. He got a copy of her schedule from an unknown source and planned to show up outside her lecture hall. He timed it perfectly and though he haven't had any rest for the last 48 hours, he showed up at her university with her signature suite and what seemed to be enough hope that she haven't had a breakdown yet. He waited outside the lecture hall and immediately spotted Alexandra as she walked out. She had a huge smile on her face as she talked to the guy walking beside her. They were so close to each other that he wanted to just snatch Alexandra as far away to the guy as possible.
