CHAPTER 006
| A bitter taste of lips

Cyrus adjusted his attire as he stood at the grand entrance of Serenity's mansion. The towering marble pillars and the well maintained gardens only accentuated the opulence of the sprawling estate.

He couldn't help but feel out of place in this world of extravagant wealth and excess. Yet, there he was, summoned by Serenity, the enigmatic young woman who seemed to be a magnet for drama.

The heavy oak doors swung open, revealing Serenity standing in the grand foyer, her piercing eyes fixated on Cyrus.

Her hair falling down her shoulders, and her slender figure was draped in an exquisite designer dress that shimmered with every step.

A sense of arrogance clung to her like a second skin.

"you're finally here," she said, "Come inside."

Reluctantly, Cyrus followed her through the foyer and into the living room. The opulent space was abuzz with laughter and the clinking of crystal glasses.

A sea of elegantly dressed women mingled, their eyes momentarily drawn to Cyrus as he walked alongside Serenity.

As they approached a group of well-heeled individuals, Serenity turned to Cyrus and a smile danced upon her lips.

Cyrus awkwardly stood there, 'well, shit' he cursed mentally feeling out of place, this woman she was definitely up to something,

'Sinclair, don't you dare do anything stupid' Cyrus thought to himself gazing towards Serenity praying silently for her to keep her mouth shut.

"Everyone, allow me to introduce my boyfriend, Cyrus Grey," she announced, her tone dripping with superiority.

The room fell silent, eyes shifting from Serenity to Cyrus, assessing him with judgmental gazes.

Cyrus lips parted his eyes widening as he fought to maintain his composure, "wha-" he tried to speak Serenity interrupted him by placing her index finger on his lips, "Shh, I got this" she whispered to him in a reassuring tone.

'No you don't!' he thought, as her words did not reassure Cyrus even one bit.

Serenity's stepmother, a woman with silver-streaked hair and an air of elegance, stepped forward, a subtle smirk playing on her lips.

"Oh, how delightful, Serenity. It seems you've brought another one of your 'toys' to our little gathering." She coyly said clasping her hands in amusement

She walked towards him, brushing off his shoulder, "Cyrus Grey is it? Judging from your appearance I can tell at a glance what background you come from, Oh my, you're Serenity's one of many toys, aren't you?" She added followed by a hysterical laugh

Serenity gritted her teeth in anger, "This wench—"

Victoria cut her off in between before she could utter a word, "Forgive me, you see my daughter has an old nasty habit of toying with lowly people, don't take her seriously",

The guests chuckled, their laughter filled with a mix of amusement and derision. Cyrus's cheeks flushed in embarassment, but he refused to let his composure falter, he had no idea why would Serenity put him in a position like this. He felt like disappearing into thin air.

Serenity's stepmother's words stung, while Serenity just scoffed, "Mother, you're hurting me now", she uttered feigning a hurt look,

"You don't think everyone is a gold digging bitch? I'm not like a certain homewrecker who drools over someone else's money like a fucking hungry dog in heat"

Victoria seemed taken aback but tried to uphold her posture well.

"The world is vast and you're too young to understand it sweetheart, bringing a beggar at home just to put your family's name down, you're not a kid anymore to pull such pranks, well thanks to you we had a good share of laugh"

Ignoring the growing discomfort in Cyrus's eyes, Serenity pulled Cyrus by the collar of his shirt leaning in closer to him she tilted her head as her lips pressed his's in a forced display of affection, she sucked on his lower lip to prevent him from pulling, locking their mouths together.

Cyrus's jaw tightened, he gripped on her wrist in an attempt to make her pull out of the kiss, she only bit his lip which created an opening for her to push her tongue inside his mouth, his emotions warring within him.

He felt like a bug that could be crushed anytime by her, a pawn in her game,

She pulled out of the kiss, the horrified look on her stepmother's face made her lips curl up into a satisfied smile

"I hope it was enough to prove what sort of relationship we have" she stated in a firm tone with no hesitation in her voice

Cyrus wiped his lips in disgust, as his eyes furiously glared her, he left the room in an instant Serenity followed right behind him, he was at the gate of the mansion when she stopped him by grabbing his arm

"What's the big deal, why'd you run off like that?" She nonchalantly questioned, Cyrus pulled away harshly from her grip "Huh?" he uttered

Serenity cackled up at his dumbfounded face, "Did you see that wench's ugly face? It was so goddamn hilarious" she uttered in between her chuckles.

Cyrus heaved a sigh, "You... You don't care about anybody else's feeling, do you?" He asked in a dead serious tone, Serenity stared at him blankly

"Don't tell me... You aren't talking about that kiss, are you? Don't take it so seriously, it was just a little joke I played to piss off that wench, and you saw it yourself, it worked like magic"

Cyrus grabbed her chin pushing it up for her to meet his eyes, "I'm not your fucking plaything" he stated before letting it go.

She seemed to be surprised from his aggressive gesture, "Whoa Chill out, I said it before didn't I? I keep your secret safe with me and you accept my orders without questioning it"

Cyrus raised his brow, "I don't think I ever made a ridiculous agreement like that".

She clicked her tongue inside her cheek, "Well you have to, afterall you don't want anyone to find out about it" she said in an authoritative tone

Cyrus let out a scoff in disbelief, "Huh so you will play it dirty like this?"

She shrugged off her shoulders, "What's the big deal? It was just a kiss anyways and I'm pretty sure it wasn't something new for you seeing how you act at your workplace" she asserted her voice any void of emotions

Cyrus face scrunched up in disgust,  "Just a kiss? How I act at my workplace? You disgust me beyond words"

She seemed unfazed as if his words did not mean anything to her at all, "Ahh I disgust you? but what's so hard about it? As long as it's a fun game" was her response

Cyrus heaved a sigh in an attempt to calm himself, he leaned in closer to her, whispering in her ears "You dare lay your hand on me again, and I'll show you it to you, myself, how a game is played without any special privileges".
