CHAPTER 022
| Only You, pt. 1

After the dinner, Serenity's voice echoed in the small space as Cyrus donned his sneakers by the doorstep. "Are you leaving already?", Cyrus, already in motion, turned back briefly. "Yeah, lock the door and don't open it for anyone. I have the keys on me."

"Do you have to?" Serenity asked, her face sulked up,

"Why're you acting like I'm going to war? I'll be back in a few hours," Cyrus stated, attempting to lighten the atmosphere.

As the door closed behind him, the apartment seemed emptier than she thought,  she hopped on the bed eventually dozing off, after awhile her eyes opened, she rubbed her eyes to look at the time, thoughts swirling in her mind, 'Should I check on him? It's getting late.'

Restlessness compelled her to toss and turn, her gaze eventually drawn to the window revealing a gentle drizzle. The cloudy sky hinted at the potential for a heavier downpour by the time Cyrus returned. 'It's raining again. That guy, I bet he does not have an umbrella on him.'

'Guess I have to go after all. That's it, I'm going to just give him the umbrella and return.' Serenity rose from the bed, wearing a jacket. The thought of Cyrus getting mad crossed her mind, causing her to hesitate.

'Even if he does, what'll he do?' she convinced herself hailing a cab, which reached the club sooner than she expected.

As she approached the entrance, the bouncer halted her with a firm statement, "Ma'am, you cannot enter,  you have to follow the dress code."

"Oh," she muttered, glancing down at her attire—grey trousers, a white loose t-shirt, and a black jacket, everything which belonged to Cyrus, it was probably his outfit from middle school, it's a surprise he had it til now. 'That time, is this how Cyrus felt?'

"Do you've an entry permit or you can pay the entry fee", He added,

Her hand reached into her pocket, discovering it empty,  'Damn,' she cursed inwardly.

'What the heck do I do? Should I just leave? He won't be happy to see me here anyway. Knowing him, he'd just tell me to get lost.' Turning around, she resigned herself to leaving.

'Or maybe not, let's wait a bit.'

The line grew increasingly crowded, and Serenity, jostled and thrown aside, seethed with irritation. 'These disgusting pests are sticking too close to me, god,' she fumed silently.

Her patience reached its limit when someone forcefully pushed past her in line, hurling insults in the process. "If you don't have the money to get in, you should just fuck off brokie," he cursed.

'Hah! Brokie, me!?'

Reacting instinctively, she raised her hand to smack him hard on the back. However, her eyes caught sight of his  wallet visibly sticking out,

'No, Serenity, you can't steal, think of your dignity!'

'It's okay. He won't spend it on a good cause anyway,' she convinced herself mentally. In a swift motion, she discreetly pickpocket the wallet and stashed it within her jacket. 'The way it stuck out, it was practically begging to be stolen'

The chaotic movement of the crowd provided cover, and even if he sensed something, it likely went unnoticed in the massive crowd.

Slipping away from the commotion, she hid behind a corner. From her vantage point, she witnessed the troublemaker being forcefully ejected by the bouncer,

"THAT BITCH MUST'VE STOLE IT!!" he yelled. Serenity smirked, 'Serves him right!' She seriously risked everything to steal his wallet, he seemed like a wannabe gangster, and if he caught her, consequences could be dire.
