She's followed me outside. Pauk. I cross my arms and look away.
"I can see ya, y'know."
She sounds irritated. Great, just what I need.
"Hey, look at me." What else can I do? I look at her. It's hard to see her eyes, but I can tell they're looking directly at me.
"I'm sorry." She says. "If you don't wanna show your face to me, that's fine. I guess I was being a bit pushy."
She gets closer. Her eyes meet mine.
"But please, for the love of God, work on your communication will ya? How are we gonna survive out here if we can't understand eachother?"
I'm at a loss for words. She's right. She was always right, wasn't she? Why have I been acting this way?
I know why. It's these stupid feelings! They make me nervous around her. Make me feel weird and want to avoid her. Yet also be around her. I wonder if she has them too.
As if! She's an ooman. She would never feel this way about me. Right?
Well...guess there's only one way to find out. If she truly does care, if I am her friend, then she could look at me.
It's the only way. Just one little test and then I'll know. If she gets put off, fine. It'll hurt like a mother pauk-de, but it'll be the end of it. If not, then...
I grab onto my helm. With shaky hands, I pull it off. My vision goes completely red and hazy.
I look down to see her reactions. I expect her to be scared. To be disgusted. She'll probably run away, or scream. Or maybe do that thing where they evacuate stomach acid through their mouth.
But....she doesn't.
She just stares. Her mouth is open slightly. Suddenly her hands rise. They brush against my face. Her eyes roam over me as if she were hunting.
Her small, delicate hands gently trace my skin. The feeling makes my whole face prickle. My stomach churns, I feel sick, but in a good way. I can't help the purr that escapes as she explores more.
"Bear..." Her voice is husky as she sighs.
My chest feels like it's being filled up with lava. It aches, squeezing the air out of me. It becomes stronger once her hands go higher. I nudge against them, capturing their warmth.
My knees involuntarily bend, sending me down to her eye level. She has better access this way. Her hands fully cup the sides of my face, looking directly at me.
I try purring, growling, anything to get her to continue. She doesn't, her hands are still. Her eyes lock onto mine. I notice her do something strange with her mouth. She bites onto her bottom lip, then just holds it there.
My own mouth tingles as I stare at hers. Her lips are plump and pink, so soft looking. I feel like tracing them with my finger, pressing them, just touching them.
Finally she speaks, "Bear, I..."
SWOOOOSH!
We both look into the sky. A bright light soars overpass and towards the hills.
The ship!
