Good news: my arm was tied up nicely in a sling and no longer stung.
Bad news: we were still lost.
"I...don't think I can...go on much longer.." Jeremy panted, trying his best to keep up with me.
I guiltily looked at him and his ankle. I sighed and set down the backpack and gun before sitting on a tree stump. Jeremy sat next to me, rubbing the bandages.
"Here, you stay put while I go on ahead. If there's no one around, we'll camp here. Good?"
Jeremy groaned.
"Or I could just carry you."
"No, you don't hafta do that!" Jeremy whined.
I smiled, shook my head then made it off the stump, wandering off ahead.
"HEEEELP! HEEEEELP!"
There were no sounds, voices or even a peep in the thick trees.
"HEEEEELP! SOS!!"
Nothing.
I huff, then turn to go back to Jeremy.
Whoosh!
I whip around. A flock of birds scatters out of a tree. I see something move.
Standing my ground, I wait. I hold my arm up. I drop to my knees. Then I hear a stomping noise.
It gets closer. Closer. Closer..
I shut my eyes. My arm quivers.
Then there's clicking.
My eyes slowly open, revealing a pair of thick, green, fishnet covered legs. Attached is a metal belt with a bear skull hanging from it.
"B - Bear?"
His helmet meets my gaze. He clicks again, nodding down at me.
I spring up, wipe myself off, then stare up at him. The two of us don't move or say a word, just stare at eachother.
"Um...so, why -"
I yelp as his hand lunges toward me. I slowly unfurl myself and look to see that he's holding something. It's some sort of metal...container?
"Uh, what the heck is that?"
Bear grunts then slides the thing open, revealing an array of small silver tools. His claws skim over some tiny scissors, clamps and crystals till they land on a small gun like device.
He takes it out then points to my bandaged arm.
"Huh? W - what are you - ?"
He growls, motioning to me with his free hand. He points again, more agitated.
"Alright, alright." I carefully undo the sling, then hand him my arm.
I hold my breath as he peels away the bandages.
His leathery fingers are surprisingly warm. His claws poke, but don't hurt or scratch.
Before he releases the last bit of gauze, he looks to me. After some silence, his hand slowly makes it to the face of his helmet, covering the eyes.
Cover my eyes?
I guess the injury won't be pretty, understandable. I cover my eyes with my other hand, then the bandage drops.
I feel him turning my arm a little. There's a wierd noise, like the sound of an airbrush. My arm then starts to tingle, then itch, then hurt.
My teeth clench. I grimace and groan. I almost pull away, but his grip tightens slightly.
Is he holding on to me? Or trying to comfort me?
Either way, I find it very nice of him.
The pain continues. My skin feels like it's being set on fire. My hand clenches, I can move it! Then, as quickly as It came, the pain dissapeared. Warmth spreads across my whole arm.
I uncovered my eyes, staring in awe at the sight. It was completely healed! The skin was once again fully intact, like it had never melted at all!
Bear let go of me soon after. He packed up his strange med kit thing, then turned to leave.
"Wait!" I reached out to him, pulling away before I could touch him. "Um,
t - thanks for helping."
As usual, he clicked at me, then walked away, fading into invisibility.
Is it just me, or is everything super warm all of a sudden?
