Chapter 36- Sir I can't-
*****

Odette sat shivering on one of the park benches. She had pulled her knees up to her chest, with her arms wrapped tightly around her legs. Occasionally her hands would rub at her bare legs as she desperately tried to stay warm.

Castle Rock may have been a hot place during the day, but come evening and nightfall, that cold spring air would set in. Odette looked about the park as she saw a few people taking their evening strolls, some had dogs with them, others just enjoying the last of the light before heading home.

"Ain't you a bit cold there?"

Odette turned as she saw Eyeball stood behind her, cigarette in his mouth as he tilted his head, looking at her with a confused look on his face.

"Well it's either be freezing cold here or burning hot at home..." Odette mumbled in response as she let her chin rest on her knees. "Literally burning hot..."

"I'd choose the heat, you can always strip off to cool down." Eyeball answered as he took a brief look around the park before sitting on the end of the bench next to her.

Odette simply shook her head. "Trust me, this is safer."

Eyeball's face screwed up, even more confused. "This can become a dangerous level of cold to be out in all night."

"Yeah and being at home can be a dangerous level of heat to be in all night..." Odette continued to mumble as she let her head stay resting on her knees, her attention mainly on the concrete in front of her.

Eyeball was about to question her attitude towards him when he looked up and his attention was caught on a fire engine that drove past the park. Odette had clearly seen it too as she sighed slightly, knowing they had just been to the house she would have once considered her temporary home.

"Odette..." Eyeball mumbled.

"Yes Sir?"

"That fire truck... Wouldn't have had anything to do with you and your 'burning hot' home would it?" He asked, clearly nervous about the answer.

Odette nodded. "Not that you'd believe me but my father was heavily into drugs and alcohol, worked up a load of debt, he then left this afternoon while I was asleep which led to the drug dealers he owed money to coming to the house, setting it on fire after I'd jumped out the window to try run away." She couldn't help but blurt out as she lowered her legs, lightly showing Eyeball the scratch marks going up her leg and arm from where she'd tried to roll so she wouldn't break a bone.

Eyeball was silent as he took in her damaged appearance. Quietly he offered her his cigarette. Odette forced a small smile as she reached out and took it, taking a drag herself as she sighed and looked at the ground once more.

"I know what it's like you know? Having a shit dad." Eyeball mumbled quietly, feeling himself connect to her a little.

"Well it doesn't matter now, I have no idea where he is." She sighed out as she leant back on the bench, taking another drag of her cigarette.

"So if they set fire to your place where you kipping tonight?" Eyeball asked, the sense of concern for her growing inside him,

Odette shrugged as she looked about slightly before gesturing to the bench they were sat on. "Here seems as good a spot as any."

Eyeball scoffed a laugh as he shook his head. "No seriously Odette, where you sleeping?"

Odette nodded as she looked at him, a serious look on her face. "Sir, I'm the girl that fucked her teacher and got him fired, I have zero friends thanks to Jenny, I have no clue where my father is and my house was set on fire by drug dealers. Where the fuck do you think I'm gonna sleep?!"

Odette couldn't help herself, she had to snap. Her emotions made her do it. Eyeball sat there in silence, the pain clear on both of their faces. She felt awful and he felt awful for her.

"You're coming to stay at ours." Eyeball spoke definitely.

He didn't care what Ace or any of the others said. There was no way he could leave her to sleep on a park bench like some type of tramp. Not to mention, with what she was wearing, chances are she'd get offered a few dollars to keep some creep warm.

"Sir I can't-"

"Stop with the Sir, I ain't your teacher no more." Eyeball blurted out as he stood up, brushing his trousers down. "And you're staying at ours, no further questions or comments."

"What you gonna do, give me a detention if I say no?" Odette asked as she stood up, trying to force a smile.

Eyeball grinned at her. "Nah I'll just tell you all about Ace's new girlfriend."

"Oh now you're just being a dick!" Odette could feel herself getting defensive as she watched him take off his suit jacket to give to her.

"Relax, it's just his right hand." Eyeball laughed out as he loosely draped his jacket around her shoulders. "Swear to God without you, he's horny all the time."

"He was horny all the time with me too." Odette corrected him.

"Yeah but he also had a job to keep him occupied, now he just has the TV, his right hand and a beer." Eyeball sighed slightly as he went to also wrap his arm around her in a hope it would keep her warm.

Yet Odette shook her head quickly as she stepped back. "Seriously, I'm just gonna say now, any male physical contact and I will orgasm on the spot."

Eyeball burst out laughing as he nodded. "Sounds like Ace isn't the only one feeling frustrated." He continued to laugh as he began walking.

Odette somewhat hobbled behind him, half cradling her arm as she tried to keep his jacket wrapped around her.

"You can say that again." She mumbled quietly as he ensured he walked slow enough for her to keep up and be comfortable.

"You can have a shower too, get those cuts cleaned up before they get infected." Eyeball spoke in his serious tone again as it was clear his concern for her health and wellbeing was going to become a regular occurrence.
