Chapter 19: Officially a Kyuranger (episode 22)

Onyx woke up to sun trickling onto their face. They flicked their ears in annoyance. They moved to stretch, but realized they were holding something, or rather, someone. They opened their eyes. Tsurugi was still asleep, buried against their body. Onyx cracked a smile. It had been so long since they had been like this. Even with the other kyurangers, it was not the same. They could never have the same relationship that Onyx had with Tsurugi. They had practically raised him.

Onyx didn't want to disturb him. He looked so peaceful. But they probably should get a move on. There was still much to do. Especially now that Don Armage would realize that Onyx was not coming back. How mad would he be when he realized he had been being played for so long?

"Tsurugi. Time to get up." Onyx nudged him.

It took a bit more prodding before he finally stirred. He yawned and sat up. Onyx followed and sat up as well.

"Good morning." Onyx hummed, stretching out their stiff limbs. "Sleep well?"

"Yeah... good morning, onii-chan..." Tsurugi replied.

"I'll go see what I can find for some breakfast. You can just hang out for now." Onyx said. "Once we eat, we can head to the Orion-gou and meet with the kyurangers."

"Okay."

After a little while, they two of them went to the ship. Onyx knew there would be quite a lot of questions from everyone. They just didn't expect them to all bombard Tsurugi with questions at once. Couldn't they have taken turns? Tsurugi didn't seem very bothered by the amount of questions at least.

"My legend is..." Tsurugi trailed off from whatever he had been about to say. "Right... my legend has been erased. I guess none of you would know anything about me. Then listen up. I'll tell you."

Everyone gathered around in interest. Onyx stood off to the side and leaned against a wall. Just what exactly was Tsurugi going to tell them?

"I'm the first earthling who attempted to visit outer space." Tsurugi said. "Onyx and I are the first two to ever receive kyutamas. I'm also the first leader of the Space Federation. I'm the immortal, Ohtori Tsurugi. That is who I am!"

Immortal... Onyx scoffed to themself. He was really going to lie to them about being immortal? Just how long would that last before his secret was found out? Shouldn't he be honest? He wasn't immortal and probably shouldn't be treated as such.

"Unbelievable!" Naga was not a fan of his story.

Stinger walked over and placed a hand on Naga's shoulder and then looked at Tsurugi. "How long were you asleep?"

Tsurugi looked over at Onyx for a moment. "Hmm... about 300 years."

Everyone made surprised sounds at that statement.

"Then... Akuma... how old are you exactly?" Garu asked.

"Hmm..." Onyx pondered the questions. "I'm not sure of my exact age at this point but I'm close to 500 years old."

"How old were you guys when you first met?" Lucky asked next.

"I was 16 and he was 10. We're six years apart granted our respective kind's ageing is the same." Onyx said.

"Now we have two more to help us defeat Jark Matter."

"Leave the rest to me." Tsurugi said.

"What? You're not going to fight with us?" Garu questioned.

No one seemed very happy about Tsurugi brushing them off. Onyx sighed. He was still trying to do this all on his own? Why did he insist on doing so? Sure, he wanted to stop more unnecessary bloodshed but these kyurangers were very much capable of handling themselves. He didn't need to be so defensive.
