We went hand in hand around any area of the ship we could access taking notes, papers, cards, napkins, anything with the ships branding or logo which turned out to be a lot and each item we found we’d stop and paste it into her journal writing notes about it and about our time here however brief it was, We even managed to get into the little shop in first class that sold your usual on ship items you may forget or simply run out of as well as trinkets, gifts and such like, I was upset thinking about how all this splendour would soon be nothing more than a mossy mess at the bottom of the ocean. She was gathering up the postcards they had on the ship adding them to the last few pages when for a second my attention caught the first class coat room beside the restaurant filled to the brim with the fancy coats and furs of first class passengers discarded in their rush to pack and get on lifeboats. As well as a few lifejackets abandoned or refused by the first class passengers to in love with themselves to wear one.

“Y/n?”

“Yes Thomas?” she asks as she stuffed the last couple in her book and came over

“I have an idea.” I told her

“Ohh, slow down dear too many in one night you’ll hurt yourself” she giggled

“Umm seems I’m marrying a comedian” I chuckled giving her a kiss “but really I think I do anyway”

“Well, enlighten me?”

“The life jackets will keep us afloat that's what they're designed for. They’ll stop us skinking down or drowning…”

“I suppose so, but the main issue is the cold thomas”

“Exactly so if we wrap up in as many coats and layers as we physically can keep as much of the water away from our bodies as possible in theory we’ll be warmer. Plus more layers, more weight we’ll float more. Then all we have to do is keep moving. If we keep on swimming, keep our heads up we could last until rescue”

“I mean in theory but we don’t know how long that’ll be”

“No but its gotta be better then jumping in as we are?”

“...you right” she nods heading to the coat room

“Ooohh, say it again”

“Why?”

“I don’t know I feel I should savour you telling me I’m right”

“Come on before I drown you” she laughs

So we went and grabbed as many coats as we could layering them smallest and thinnest layers first I helped y/n mostly because I wanted to make sure she was done first I found her a long floor length ladies coat which I helped her button all the way then a small fur shawl to keep her body warm, I helped her secure her journal under her left vest then another bigger coat and another and another before then adding a large ladies fur coat to keep her warm and another life vest just to make sure she’d float and to secure all the layers, she then helped me too doing much the same even if there wasn’t much left in the room for me but I didn’t mind so long as she was safe and just as we finished up water began to race out of the stairwell

“Holy toad!” she yelped in shock as the water flooded the floor

“Come on we don’t have much time” I told her grabbing her hand
