"Yes, I am. But Ashley I can explain."
Before I knew it, she slapped me.
"It all makes sense now, that's why you wanted me as your doctor when there were so many people out there. The cologne I smelt in the mall and the restaurant, was you playing games with me."
"Ash--"
"Shut up! I don't wanna hear it. Oh my God, I fucking opened up to you. I told you I never wanted to see your face again without knowing it was you. I'm such a fool" She said.
She had angry tears in her eyes.
Her beautiful eyes.
"Ashley, you're not such. Just listen to me" I tried holding her hands.
"Don't dare touch me" She said and I retreated my hands.
Everyone watched and some gossiped.
Tasha was giving me real death stares.
"Am gonna call the office and tell them I quit. You don't even need a doctor. You are fucking healthy." She yelled.
She turned to Aiden and what she said next made my heart shatter.
"Aiden, I accept your proposal. I will marry you"
I grabbed her by the arm, "What are you doing? You don't love him"
"Everyone deserves a chance. I will love him no matter what" She said. She was saying this out of anger.
"Ashley, you're pissed. Just calm down. You don't know what you're saying"
"Trust me, I do. And you'll be the first to receive my invitation."
I couldn't believe it.
Did she hate me that much to the stand of marrying a guy she didn't even love?
"Ashley, do you mean it?" Aiden asked.
That bastard.
"Yes, I will marry you" She repeated.
I wanted to hear her say those words to me.
Only me.
He brought out the ring and got down on one knee.
She gave him her hand and he put the ring on her finger.
All this was happening in front of my eyes and I couldn't do anything about it.
I clenched my fits and jaw. This was enough.
I grabbed him by his collar. "You bastard, you know she doesn't love you. Why do you still want to marry her? You can see she's saying all this out of anger" I said.
He also grabbed my collar, "She will love me and I'm gonna wait till she does."
His confidence made my blood boil.
"Both of you should stop," Ashley said.
I let go of him and turned to look at her. I placed my hand on her shoulders.
"Ashley, please let me explain" I pleaded.
"I said don't touch me" She removed my hands. "You had the chance to explain years ago"
And just like that she left and walked out.
I tried to go after her, but Tash stopped me.
"Tasha, I need to explain things to her," I said, but she still blocked my path.
"Look, Levi, you had the chance to explain yourself years back. When you embarrassed her and left her on the floor, she was hurt and broken. I put in every effort to make her her cheerful self again. It wasn't easy. If I had not tried my best, I would have seen my bestie go through depression and now, she is happy with Aiden. I know she doesn't love him, but she one day will. I really wanna punch you in the face for being an asshole all those years back, but if you've really changed, you'll let Ashley be happy. Don't make this difficult for Ashley and yourself. So just leave." She said.
I could see the concern she had for Ashley in her eyes.
So I left.
I was certain she would be at the penthouse, but there was no way I was gonna let Ashley leave.
I won't lose her again.
Never again.
