*Dan's pov*

We carry Magnus, following Storm around like vulnerable sheep following its shepherd dog. Kurin struggles under the weight.

"Come one, Kurin! Please." I beg

"I don't know if I can do this much longer." He groans

"Lay him on the floor on his back" Storm instructs " A proper nurses ward is required." Storm mumbles

We crouch onto the floor and release our grip one by one.

"What room is this, anyway?" Any questions

"That is beside the point. I need to alert the faculty."

"I'll come with you."

"Leave it to them, Dan." Crystal Blue says

"Wait for me in the assembly hall." They exit simultaneously, Storm rushes to alert the faculty. I urge myself to move forwards, but my feet remain frozen on the ground. I turn back and collapse to my knees beside Magnus. I grip his hand, and our fingers entertain.

"I love you."

I get off the floor, and make my way to the assembly hall. I flop down on it, sinking miserably.

I press my face against the palms of my hands. My heart thunders in my chest.

"Hey Dan, you good?" Aay asks. I remove my hands from my face.

"No." I reply, trying to hide the cracking of my voice. Kurin takes a seat next to me, on the isolated bench in the assembly hall.

"Magnus is gonna be fine, trust me. Magnus is tough, and he won't give up the fight. Especially if it means he's fighting for you."

"Yeah. . ."

Riot and Aay stand next to each other, silently, avoiding discussing sensitive topics. Instead of forcing small talk, we sit in silence. I pray Magnus is alright, tears pricking my eyes. I shatter the seemingly formidable silence.

"It's just, everything has been going wrong. We've been so distant recently. He's been sleeping late, violent and cold. And I-I don't know what to do anymore. It's all my fault. I ruined everything like I always do." The words scrape my throat, as dry as sandpaper. My heart aches, but I blink back the tears.

"Magnus is scaring me." Riot agrees

"Yeah, I was scared after he bashed your nose." Aay agrees

Kurin throws his arms around me. All I need is a hug from Magnus. I don't feel safe or secure the way I do when Magnus has his strong arms around me. The faint scent of strawberries lingers. I bury my face in his shoulder. We say no words but hold each other.

I'm being a burden. Snap out of it. I release myself from his embrace.

"I'm sorry guys. You don't need to do any of this." I sigh

"We're your friends. That's what friends do. So don't ever feel afraid to ask. We're right here." Riot comforts

"Might as well do something productive in the meantime."

"Why don't we train for the graduation?" Riot suggests.

"Alright."

"Okay. You have to take my hair clip (act like it's something valuable.) And try to escape. You can only stand on the benches, not the floor, and you have to make it to the other side. The others will act as guards, if you're caught, you're eliminated. You have a time limit of five minutes. Dan, you're going first."
