The house was larger than he thought it would be. More stories than he would know what to do with. Arches and columns and support beams tracing over the house, giving it a rustic but modern sort of feel. It's mostly stone on the outside, with eager bits of overhanging moss growing over it all. He supposes that it's not too bad, but he just doesn't really know what he would do with all of that space.
"Are you ready to go?" His mom asks, a large glass bowl of her own potato salad balanced on one arm as she digs through the driver's side seat to try and find something. "Here."
Percy jogs around, grabbing the smaller container of tupperware, one that smells of blue dye, cookie dough, and all types of home. His mom had initially only baked a handful, but a handful became almost three dozen, and the tupperware was stuffed to the limit to prove it. Percy didn't even really know if the Chase family could eat this many cookies.
Three cars are parked in the driveways, the gutters of the street left for guests. The amount of cars lining either side of the streets was a bit overwhelming, but Percy figures that as the premier social event of the summer, the Chase Barbecue is expected to have people lined up and down the street for the mere chance of getting to hangout.
His mom had been rather insistent on going, solely based on the fact that Athena Chase had loved his mothers books so much she had taken a position as her premier beta reader. Something about needing to pick up some edits and other notes she had made. Percy hadn't paid attention, merely jumping to go when he heard that there would certainly be food present.
He knew that no one he talked to would really be there. That's besides the fact that he only talks to like three people, but he digresses. Sally had laughed when he told her he was nervous, telling him that it would be fine and that Athena was an amazing hostess. He knew this, and knew that it wouldn't be bad, but the feeling persisted. Something low and hard to reach.
Walking in through the carved oak front door, Percy is surprised to see how lively the foyer and living room are. Various groups of people are gathered in different spots around the room, each clique joining each other as though they were designated specific gossip spots throughout the house. Turning to his left, Percy isn't surprised to see a very sophisticated office.
Awards line the walls in various trophy cases, and he guesses this is Athena's office. Turning around, he wanders. Peering into multiple cream colored hallways, a laundry room that was a tad too clean, and a large separate study that has wall to wall bookshelves, until he somehow ends up in the kitchen watching the catering crew rushing about when he meant to head out into the backyard and the party.
"Down that hallway, past the bathroom on the right, and two lefts." The Head Caterer that reminds him of Michel from Gilmore Girls points down a backway that is probably some type of overly long way of getting there. The man looked very irritated, and for a moment Percy had thought he was just fucking with him. Why didn't these people just have a regular fucking back door?
"Thanks." Percy throws up an awkward goodbye wave that isn't reciprocated before he begins making it across the apparent fucking Oregon Trail to just get into the backyard.
The hallways are painted a faint hue of blue, all of it nice and smooth and he guesses that they had been repainted sometime recently because the faint blue in his room definitely isn't as nice as this one.
Farther down the hallway, there's a sudden grouping of photos hanging closely knit on the left hand wall. Slowing down to study them, he glances around, not wanting anyone to think he's a creep.
