Part 19 - Exemplary son-in-law

In the evening we sit together with the laptop at the table. Wilhelm's mother really wanted to do the whole thing via video chat, which I could really do without, but ultimately I want to be an exemplary son-in-law. Okay wow, that sounds really stupid.

"Would you like something to drink?" Wille looks at me questioningly. "I .. yes, gladly" I say haltingly. "Are you nervous?" I nod. "Me too, but we'll manage somehow" he puts a filled cup in front of me. "Have you done this before?" "Yes" he gives me a satisfied smile and takes my hand. "I won't let you go until this is all over" he nods his head in the direction of the laptop. "Neither do I" my voice sounds shaky and nervous. At that moment a call comes in and Wille picks it up.

"Hello Mama" "Wilhelm, Simon, how nice" that came as a surprise. "Hello" I briefly raise my hand and wave at the camera, which immediately triggers a smile from her. What happened? Why is she so different? I don't know her well, but something must have clicked somewhere or something, otherwise she definitely wouldn't be like that. "First things first. How are you?" she is really different.

Simon and I are still downstairs. We just said goodbye and now we're sitting there petrified. For some reason talking to my mom today was actually fun and I can't tell you why. "That was" Simon smiles at me in surprise. "Nice" I nod. "Sort of" "But also funny" "Yes, that's right. Will she ever tell us why she's suddenly like that?" "Probably not. But as long as it stays the way it is now, it doesn't really matter to us."

I pull him by his hand in my direction. "Wille, what are you doing?" I hug him without a word. Simon seems to be a bit uncomfortable so I pull him down to me. He is now sitting on one of my legs. I slowly let go of him and kiss his forehead. "Thank you so much" "Thanks for what?" "That you do all this with me" "I have no other choice" he laughs and presses a quick kiss on my lips. "You already have that" "Yes, breaking up with you, but I'll never make that mistake again, it's too stressful for me. Besides, I love you, so breaking up with you would just be unnecessary and, as I said, a huge mistake." "Wow" "What?" "That was just the sweetest confession of love you've ever made me" "It is?" he grins. "I love you too you idiot" I kiss him.
