"Mommy! Mommy! We're going to be late!" exclaimed Lizzie as she waited at the door, starting to get impatient.
"I'm coming honey, calm down!" Catherine suddenly appeared in the foyer. She had been delayed by the same old problem: not knowing what to wear. It was a typical teenage girl problem, but considering that she was almost thirty years old, it was starting to be worrisome. In the end, she decided not to complicate things: she put on a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black sneakers.
"Come on mommy, please! I'm going to be late!" snorted Lizzie.
Catherine hurried to grab her things, and in less than five minutes, she started the car and drove to the sports center. Once there, the two quickly got out of the car. Lizzie gave her mother a kiss before hurrying into the building. Lizzie, just like her mother did as a child and teenager, did gymnastics. Only Catherine did sport gymnastics, while Lizzie did rhythmic gymnastics. The two are very similar, but rhythmic gymnastics requires more dancing skills than sport gymnastics.
As young as Lizzie was, she had made it onto one of the teams, which included girls slightly older than her. The reason Lizzie was so nervous was because the state finals were being held that day. Five teams from all over California were going to compete to advance to the national finals. Only one would have a chance to compete to be the best in the entire country.
Catherine looked at her watch. It was twenty past eleven and the competition would begin at eleven-thirty. Catherine looked around nervously "Where is this man?" she thought. Just then she saw Kevin appear in the crowd.
"Hi. I know I'm late, but I've had some issues." said Kevin as soon as he approached her.
"That's okay. I just arrived." said Catherine "She was really nervous. I hope it goes well."
Kevin just nodded. Suddenly, Catherine looked around before fixing her gaze back on Kevin "Hey! What if someone recognizes you? I've seen at least two groups of teenagers around here."
"Relax, I've got it under control. Watch." he pulled a pair of sunglasses out of his back pants pocket and put them on "There you go. Unrecognizable."
Without realizing it, Catherine smiled "Wow... I hope those hormonal girls also find you... unrecognizable." she glanced quickly at her watch "Five minutes to start, we should go inside."
Once inside, they positioned themselves on one of the bleachers. They were totally silent until Catherine spoke "By the way... where's Sophie? I thought she was coming."
"Yes, she was going to come, but she's had commitments come up. Anyway, she wishes Lizzie the best of luck."
