"Why is he taking so long, Mommy?"" Lizzie asked as she looked out the window.
"I don't know, honey. Maybe the flight's been delayed." Catherine replied as she finished preparing dinner.
Lizzie had been standing by the window for several minutes looking intently out into the street. Suddenly, she saw what she had been waiting for, "Mommy! It's his car! He's here! Daddy's back!"
Catherine smiled as she watched Lizzie run out. She opened the door to the house just in time to see Kevin get out of the car.
"Daaaadyyyy!" Lizzie exclaimed as she ran toward him.
Kevin turned and smiled broadly. He dropped his suitcase just in time to grab his daughter in his arms and turn on himself a couple of times "Hi, sweetie. My goodness, how much you've grown since I last saw you."
Lizzie arched an eyebrow "But Dad, it's only been two weeks! I couldn't have grown much in two weeks."
"You're right." he playfully ruffled Lizzie's hair " As I have missed you so much, it seems like it's been ages."
Catherine removed the food from the fire and went into the hall, just as Kevin entered, accompanied by Lizzie. Kevin dropped his suitcase again before wrapping his arms around his wife's waist. They embraced for a few seconds before giving each other a tender kiss "You're finally home..."
"Finally..." whispered Kevin against her lips.
A sort of snort was heard coming from the living room. Catherine laughed as she walked into the living room right behind Kevin.
As soon as Kevin walked into the living room, he couldn't help but smile. His barely two-year-old son was sitting on the floor, playing with his toys. As he saw his parents enter (but especially his father), he smiled and started clapping his hands.
"Hi Jamie! Hi baby boy! How are you doing?" he took the little boy in his arms and kissed his baby chubby cheeks several times "I think you've really grown up!"
The little boy laughed heartily. Kevin couldn't help but notice his eyes, they were intense blue, just like his wife's. As for the hair, it was curly and chestnut-colored.
Catherine smiled before resting a hand on Kevin's shoulder "Guys, dinner is ready. Lizzie, go wash your hands. And help your brother too, please."
Lizzie nodded "Okay. Come with me, Jamie!" Kevin set the baby down. Lizzie took her baby brother's hand and they both started walking carefully toward the washroom.
Catherine smiled. Her smile only widened as she felt her husband's strong, protective arms wrap around her body from behind. Kevin began to kiss the back of Catherine's neck, making her shiver. She turned to face him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She gently kissed his lips.
"Kevin Scott Richardon, what are you trying to do?" she whispered.
"Me? Nothing." Kevin kissed her lips several times "It's just that..... I've missed you so much."
"Me too. How about, when the kids are in bed, we show each other how much we've missed one another?"
"I thought you'd never ask me..." Kevin whispered before kissing his wife passionately.
Moments after they parted, the children reappeared in the living room. As the four of them made their way to the kitchen. Cathwrine spent a minute reflecting on how wonderful her life was. She had the job of her dreams, the house of her dreams, fantastic children and the best of men by her side.
Yes, she definitely couldn't be happier.
