Chapter 17: A day of fun

The next morning Jessica woke up early and started to prep for the next day, she started to charge all her batteries and cleared out all her memory cards to make sure she had enough for all the photos. After an hour she hopped into the shower to get ready, after she went down to the lobby to get some yogurt after she was done she went back to the room and went to sit on the balcony, it was a beautiful day in Maine. They were in Portland and she could smell the air from the Atlantic it was a smell she had not smelled in ten years, she loved the beaches in Maine, they were so nice, not better than Hawaii but still nice, I guess since it reminded her of her childhood. She watched the sunrise and looked around at all of the woods, it was nice to see pine trees, another memory from her childhood. She remembered going hiking and seeing all the beautiful sights from the mountains. She had never been around Portland before though, it was a wonderful area, she read up on it when she found out she was going to be here, she was hoping for some free time to explore.

An hour later there was a knock on her door. When she opened it Leland was standing there with a bunch of roses. She smiled as she let him in and gave him a kiss.

"Good morning," he said to her handing her the roses, "These are for you."

"Thank you, they are beautiful."

"You ready for a day of fun." He said to her.

"I am what are we doing?" she asked.

"I can't tell you that but I would bring your camera."

She went and grabbed a camera and a memory card and they headed out the door. They got in the car and started driving.

"Have you been to Portland before?" he asked her,

"No, not to Portland, I have been to Kennebunkport, but that is it.?"

"Good so it will be new for both of us, I found a couple of places to go today."

Jessica smiled as they drove to where Leland planned when he parked the car they got out and walked a little while, Jessica looked out and saw the light house, she knew what it was, it was the Portland Head Light, it was even more beautiful in person they walked up to go into the museum which is located in the old keepers quarters. Jessica was in awe at all of it. She started snapping photos all over the place, she took some of Leland and he took some of her they wondered around for about an hour before Leland grabed her arm and said he still had more planned, they headed out to the car. Once inside Jessica started thanking him.

"Leland this was so much fun, thank you for taking me here." she said smiling from ear to ear.

"You are welcome, we are not done yet. Lets go have some lunch, there is a place I found not to far from here." He drove for a few mins then pulled up to this small building called The Lobster Shack. sitting right on the water, it was such a beautiful view. They went up and ordered some lobster rolls, they are suppose to be one of the best around. They went to get a table right next to the water, once they sat down Jessica took a picture of the Lobster roll.

"It looks fantastic." she said looking up at him.

"It is suppose to be, it was featured on the food network."

"Really? Well don't mind me, I am going to take a bite and it looks like it is going to be messy." She said grabbing the roll and tring to take a bite. It was so good, nothing like a Maine lobster, they are the best. She smiled as she chewed the first bite. "Just as I thought, so good. Try it," she said to Leland. He took a bite and looked up at her.

"Oh my goodness, this is really good." They ate their lobster rolls and took in the view. Jessica took a few more pictures.

"This is great, thank you for such a wonderful day." She said smiling at him.

"You are welcome, but we are not done yet." he replied with a smile.

"We're not?" she replied.

"No you ready to go?" he asked helping pick up her trash.

"Sure, I am ready." She said as she got up, they threw away the garbage and headed back to the car. Leland drove a little while then they pulled into cresent beach state park. It was a beautiful park with trails that lead to rock ledges as well as a beach to walk around, it was just so beautiful. The two just made their way around the park just taking in all the secenery. Jessica had fun taking pictures and just hiking around the trails, they went out on a rock ledge and watched the waves crash into them, it was just such a spectacular sight While on the ledge Jessica gave Leland the biggest hug.

"Thank you so much, this has been one of the best days of my life." she said to him

"You are so welcome, I am glad you are having a good time."

"I really am, I never get to do this anymore, I love taking in nature and to tell you the truth it is nice to see these kind of sights it reminds me of my childhood."

"Well I am glad to do this with you." he said giving her a kiss. They then decided to take a walk along the beach. They ended up walking up and down for about an hour taking pictures and just talking. Jessica was just so happy that Leland did all this for her, she was just amazed that he planned all this for her, it had been a long time since someone did that for her. She held his hand and they continured to walk for some time more.
