Jessica awoke early the next morning, she looked over at Leland who was still asleep. She gave him a light kiss on his forehead then got up and headed to the kitchen. She saw her mom making breakfast for Sarah.
"Good morning." Her mother said with a smile.
"Good morning mom." She replied while giving Sarah a kiss on top of the head. "Good morning sweetie."
"Would you like something to eat?" Her mom asked.
"No, I think I am going to go down to the beach and take a walk. I need to clear my head this morning, if you don't mind?" Jessica replied.
"Not at all, I don't mind. Try to relax a little, its going to be a busy day." Her mother added, Jessica just nodded and smiled. She then went to her room and put on a sundress and threw her hair up in a bun then went out to the living room and grabbed a picture from her end table and a flower from the coffee table and headed to her car. She drove to the beach and headed down to the shore.
Once she got to the edge she took her picture in her hands and looked at it, it was a picture of her and her first husband on their wedding day. She smiled as she remembered how fun that day was. She still couldn't believe that all this was happening and she had to say goodbye to this one part of her life.
"I hope you can hear me," she started saying to the sky. " Today is a big day for me, but I'm sure you already know that. I know I couldn't fully be ok with everything until I was able to say goodbye to you. I hope that you can understand that I have moved on, and that I found someone that has made me so happy. Mom says that you had a hand in it, I don't know if I believe that, I would love to think that you did but I am just not so sure. I love you, I hope you are looking down on Sarah and I and that you are happy with how our lives are."
Jessica stood looking out at the ocean for what seemed like hours. She kept thinking what if it was true? What if he had helped get her to her new love, to ensure that she had happiness. That would be the greatest gesture that she could think of. She looked down at the picture and smiled once again. She stared at her first husbands face and just thought how it would be nice to know if he approved of her new love, she wished that she could hear him say everything was alright. Anything to let her know that he was happy for her. She turned her gaze back out to the water when she felt arms wrap around her waist, she turned her head to find Leland there. She smiled then looked at the sky as if to say thank you, she knew that had to be a sign and at that moment she felt relieved.
"Hey, thought you would come here, what are you doing?" He asked kissing her cheek.
"I had to come and say goodbye." She replied pulling the picture up so he could see it.
"Was that your husband?" He asked.
"Yeah, that was taken on our wedding day."
"Are you sad?"
"I thought I would be, but you know what? I feel like I have closure and that I can really move on now. I know now that this is what was meant for me. I always wondered if he would approve, and just coming here today has made me feel like he does and that he is happy for me."
"I am so happy that you feel good about this, I know this must feel strange for you. I am also glad I have this moment alone with you before all the craziness starts."
"Me too baby." Jessica said then leaned in and kissed him, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him in close. When they pulled apart, Jessica just smiled at him.
"Ready to get going?" He asked.
"I have one thing left to do." Jessica said then walked over to the ocean, she held the flower she brought with her up to her face then gave it a kiss, looked up to the sky one last time and threw the flower into the ocean. She then turned to Leland and grabbed his hand as they headed back to their cars, the footprints leave a trail in the sand behind them.
