'Breathtakingly beautiful', I think to myself as I stare at her face before heaving a chuckle.
"you found me. Now, what do you want?", I asked with another chuckle before looking away as I take another drag at the burning cigarette in between my fingers.
I'm currently smoking at the back of one of the buildings in Saint Thomas University where only a few people such as myself are allowed to enter.
She gave me a look before mumbling, "ang sama talaga ng ugali nyo sakin ma'am..." and pout her lips when I gave her a quick glance.
I raised my eyebrow at her. "do you want me to fail you in my class?" I said as if to scare her and when she gave me a horrified look, I started giggling before shaking my head. "I'm just kidding.." I added with a smile before taking another drag and breathe out. I then felt her eyes lingering at my face so I open my mouth to talk again. "what is it?" I asked, without meeting her gaze.
"don't worry, I won't die from this. I said with a playful smile before chuckling when she rolled her eyes at me.
My smile remains on my lips as I watch her leave before I looked down at the cigarette in between my fingers and sigh. I watch the burning tip for a moment before I let it slip from my grip and step my heels on it, slightly twisting it with determination that I suddenly found within myself.
I smiled sadly to myself before a sound of an opening door pulled my gaze away from the pack of cigarettes I'm holding on top of my desk.
I just remembered a beautiful memory with her. The time where everything is going well for the both of us. She was just in her freshman year and I was in my second year of teaching at that university. It wasn't easy handling students but I had a great time despite taking some of the lives of my students secretly. It was a little hard to cover my tracks but I managed to walk away without suspicion. Plus, the reaper's curse works like a charm. When mortals don't see us for more than a month, they will forget our whole existence and all our interactions with them. That's why I've been moving from city to city every decade so I can start again without people's suspicion.
"Ms. Ives, everything's ready" Val blurted out as soon as she enter my office and gave me a gentle nod that I immediately reciprocated. I stood up from my seat and gently push the swivel chair out of my way as I mumble out a simple 'good' before approaching her at the doorway.
"I'll head out for a minute, Val. You can relax while I'm out.." I mumble under my breath as I went pass by her and out the door of my office.
I gave some of my men on duty a brief nod in acknowledgement before heading straight towards the exit of my gallery. I walked in silence for a half minute before I pull out the car keys and pressed the button on it when I'm a few feet away from the car. I watched the headlights flicker, indicating that it's now unlock.
