Chapter 13
Anjela looked at the clock as she was slipping on her old sneakers. She was wearing a yellow graphic t-shirt with grey gym shorts. She then ran a brush through her hair and put in a pony tail to make it seem like she was going to the gym. Anjela told her dad that she would be going to to the gym to work out and burn some calories. He had protested since it was going to be a little late, but she assured him she would be home by eight. She was supposed to meet Bella at the stop sign at the end of the street around six. It was 5:53 pm.
" You better be home at eight O'clock sharp, or you're cell phone can find a seat on my nightstand," her father told her as she sped down the stairs.
" I know," she reassured him, looking for her I pod, which was the coffee table.
Once she grabbed it, a reminder popped in her head.
" Oh, and before I go, Don't be afraid of the wolves in the neighborhood. Bella told me they only like to roam in the evening,"
Her father raised an eyebrow. " Wolves? Where do we live, in a community where people are wolves?" he asked with a laugh.
Yeah, pretty much.
" No," Anjela lied, "But we need to watch out for them," she pointed out.
Before she could walk out the door, her father called out after her.
" No, wait! Let me give you a ride there,"
Crap.
" Umm, why?"
" I don't want to let you get eaten up by the wolves," he told her.
" Bella told me that they hate music," she quickly protested, holding up her i pod.
Hesitation crossed her father's face before opening his mouth to speak once more. " Okay. Just be careful,"
" Okay, Bye!" she told him before walking out the door.
After she closed it, she threw her i pod in the bushes next to the porch. She then headed off to the stop sign to see Bella sitting beside it, checking her phone.
" Ready to patrol?" Anjela asked her.
Bella looked up with a grim face. " Let's hope no blues are killed,"
She then rose up and tucked her phone in her pocket. Anjela turned part wolf and Bella did the same after a few moments.
" You search on the road and I'll check the backyards," Bella informed her before padding off, her white tail swishing back and fourth.
Anjela padded on the hard, coal like road, searching for any pairs of red eyes. So far after searching half the street, nothing appeared under the street lights, and nothing emerged from the bushes. No one was in sight.
Where are the wolves? Aren't they supposed to attack by now?
Confused, she sat down on her hind legs and sniffed the air. The only wolves she could smell were Bella and herself. She let out a howl to signal Bella over to see if she had any trace of reds. A few moments went by before a the white wolf ran towards her with a worried look on her face.
" Did you find anything?" Bella asked, " I haven't spotted any,"
Anjela tilted her head. " I haven't. You mean you couldn't find any trace of any wolves?"
Bella shook her head. " Maybe they're calling it off tonight," she suggested, " They might have found out about June spoiling their plans,"
Just then an idea popped in her head. Alex was visiting Luna at the park tonight. This was a chance to check up on him, to make sure he didn't become prey.
