Chapter 26

Anjela stirred the soup that sat on the stove, noodle letters surrounding the spoon. Once she was done, she took the spoon out and poured the soup into a bowl. She was making dinner for Luna, who was sitting in the basement with chains attached to her wrist and neck. Bella had found the chains in her grandfather's old belongings and offered them to her. Anjela gladly accepted.

It was great to be home again. To be back with her mother and twin made her happy. Even though her father was no longer around. The only thing different was that they now secretly held a prisoner down stairs.

It had been over a week since the big battle, and everyone was starting to make amends with the other kind. Bella had even called for a peace meeting with all the wolves, which was to take place today.

Anjela picked up the bowl and started to head for the basement, only to be stopped by Alex.

"I can take it to her." he offered, his eyes sparking with determination.

Anjela sighed. Ever since he became like himself again he's been wanting to prove himself to her and everyone else. Before the wolf world was introduced to him, he was lazy half the time and didn't bother to do chores until their father sent him a last warning before grounding. Now he was always wanting to help out, trying to make up for what he did.

"You know all the stuff you did wasn't your fault." She pointed out.

"But it is," he pressed, "I'm the one who killed Leslie after Luna found out that she was trying to cure me. And accusing you of murder was worse. I want to make up for what I did."

"You've done enough." Anjela assured him, "We trust you now. The potion made you do those things."

"Alex!" their mother called from upstairs, "Can you help me with these clothes? They're not getting to Goodwill themselves, you know."

Alex's brown eyes brightened up. "Coming!"

He took off up the stairs, his feet making noise as he rushed up. Anjela carried on towards the basement, satisfied that he could do something for their mother instead. She opened the basement door and shut it behind her, walking down a small flight of stairs slowly. She came to a stop in front of Luna, who was staring off into space. She then noticed her and straightened up.

"What do you want?" she asked, her tone flat.

Anjela huffed. "Will I ever get a thank you for bringing you food?"

Luna looked up at her, her eyes flashing red. "You didn't exactly have to imprison me here you know."

Anjela bent down and slid the bowl to her. "Well, I don't have passion for killing so this is the only thing I could think of." She shot back.

Luna didn't respond this time, staring at the soup with a blank stare. A moment passed before she took the soup, the chains rattling as her hands gripped the spoon. She began eating, and Anjela stared at her with disappointment.

For the past week, every time she brought food down for her enemy, she was always able to throw insults at her and often told her what a fool she was keeping her here. Instead of anger that glittered in her eyes, her eyes were just blank.
