Chapter 22

It was near midnight when they reached the school. They had taken the longest route in their wolf forms, staying well away from the people. To Anjela, strolling town in her wolf seemed more relaxing than when she was human.

"The best part of being in town as a wolf is that no one comes to talk to you." Logan chuckled once they were out of earshot.

"Unless a psycho found you to keep." Bella remarked as they came up to the doors.

The front of the school looked dead and empty, almost depressing. Anjela knew that beyond those doors was her mother, twin, and enemy, just waiting inside. Excitement and fear flowed through her veins as they walked in, the cold, dark hallways unwelcoming. Two wolves were waiting inside, one with grey fur, black coating his back, and the other with white fur with grey speckling her face. They both had red eyes. When they entered, they rose to their paws and let out a threatening growl, but stopped short when they saw Anjela.

"She's waiting in the gym." The she wolf spoke, sitting back down.

As they padded towards the gym, Bella snorted. "Didn't know Luna needed guards at the doors."

Before they knew it they were at the doors, dim light seeping through the blurred windows. Anjela shifted her paws nervously, thinking about what would happen beyond this point. If Luna would kill her mother after the crystal entered her hands, or have Luna give some fresh, memory replacing poison to her. She pushed the thoughts aside and went in, immediately spotting her enemy.

Luna was standing in the middle next to Anjela's mom, who was tied to a chair. Her mother's face was expressionless and blank. But when she looked up, her eyes brightened up, clearly glad to see her daughter. But for some reason, Anjela couldn't see Alex anywhere.

Is he hiding somewhere? She thought.

Anjela then noticed that she could feel other wolves were staring at her from the dark corners, their red eyes glowing with hostility. Bella and Logan appeared at her side, glaring at Luna.

"Where's Alex?" she asked.

Luna growled. "I found him chatting with someone. I don't know who, but he's being punished for it."

Silence gripped the air for a moment or two before she cleared her throat.

"So," Luna began, "You are desperate for your mother."

"Give her too me." Anjela snarled, "And I'll give you what you want."

Luna raised an eyebrow. "How will I know you won't turn around and leave?"

Logan huffed. "How will we know you won't leave first?"

She snorted. "Touché. I'll give you your mom, but if you fail to hold up you're end of the bargain...."

She paused, taking a gun from her coat pocket. She pointed it towards her mother's head, making Anjela gasp. Logan and Bella shared shocked faces, their eyes sharp with disbelief. Her mother's face became pale as she began to tremble. Anjela could see her hands shaking.

"No!" Anjela howled with horror, "I'll give you the crystal! Just please, don't hurt her."

Bella stiffened beside her. "You're giving her the crystal?" she growled in furry.

Luna smiled evilly, her eyes squinting. "Do you smell that?" she chuckled, "I smell fear."

Anjela ignored her enemy and slipped her necklace off, now holding it in her jaws. She then padded slowly to Luna and when she dropped the necklace, it landed with a thud, the green glow dying away. Luna picked it up and cut the rope from the chair, letting her mother free.
