chapter 19

It had been a couple of days since the midnight hunt. Anjela was in the forest, casually walking in her wolf form. This morning her mother told her to get some fresh air, maybe because she saw the guilty face she had kept the past couple days. She breathed in the scent of pine trees as birds above chirped their lungs out. She was just about to sit down and enjoy the view when she heard the rush of paws out in the far distance. It wasn't heading towards her, but the faint growls and snapping teeth convinced her to pad in the direction of the noise. Anjela crouched low in the ground and slowly went up a steep hill to take a look. Besides the better view, she saw Logan in his wolf form running alongside a much older one with a black coat, her body showing her rib cage. They were both running from Luna and another dark grey wolf, Luna's blue greyish pelt looking glossy while the other wolf's red eyes glowed with energy as he nipped at the elder's hind legs.

Luna! She thought with anger and fear bubbling inside of her.

Anjela knew if Logan got to close to her cabin, Luna would know where she was hiding. Gathering her strength, she turned around and headed down the steep hill and began racing through the forest, heading towards them. After a couple moments she caught brief glances of them as they disappeared in the trees once more. After more running they came in the open and Anjela sprinted faster, gaining up on them. She then quickly pounced on Luna and yanked her down like prey, her teeth digging into her flank. Luna whirled around wildly and struggled to throw her off, surprise flashing in her red eyes. The grey wolf who had trailed beside her abandoned the chase to help Luna, his teeth yanking her aside before his eyes beamed with satisfaction as he noticed her face.

What's he happy about?  She couldn't help but think before dodging his next attack.

Luna was about to get up and attack, but a flash of brown caught her eye and Logan was pinning her down, his teeth inches away from her enemy's throat.

"It's nice to see you again, Anjela." The grey wolf snarled, his voice catching her by surprise.

Alex.

"Alex?" she asked hesitantly.

"The one and only," he growled before lunging on top of her, his fangs piercing one of her front legs. She snapped back and threw him off before rushing to Logan.

"We need to go now," she hissed in one of his pointed ears.

She glanced behind her to see Alex rushing towards her, his eyes raging with fury. Logan nodded before letting his grip go on Luna and sprinting ahead. She followed him and at immediately her crystal glowed and a flash of bright light hit all of the wolves' eyes. Once Anjela could see again, she was looked around to see she was back where she was behind the steep hill, along with Logan. He tilted his head in confusion.

"Where are we?" he asked.

"Near the cabin," she replied dryly before making her way up the hill. Once she caught the view again she could see where they once were, Alex and Luna's bodies moving around in confusion to figure out where they went. Not too far ahead she could spot another wolf shape hiding in a small ditch, trying to sink further in the snow as they drew near her.

"My grandmother's down there! If they see her they'll kill her!" he hissed at her, "Can't you teleport us back?"

Anjela turned to him and gave an annoyed glare. "No! I don't know how that even happened!"

Logan's eyes flashed with worry. "They're going to find her though! She has a bad cold and do you know how hard it is holding in a cough? Especially in the cold?"
