Chapter 25

"Wake up, Anjela."

Anjela opened her eyes to see Lucille standing over her, her eyes glistening with worry and confusion. She rose up to notice she hadn't felt any pain that had struck her chest. She looked at her pelt to see there was no hole with blood oozing out if it, and she could breathe again.

"Where am I?" she asked, "Am I dead?"

"We.... don't know." Another voice told her.

Anjela spun around to see Shadow, the same look of concern on her face like Lucille's. "The green crystal has opened two moon portals when you whited out. Come and see."

Together they bounded up a hill, and when they reached the top, she could see two moons; one was a full moon, and the other was new moon. In the gap between the two moons, Anjela could see the green crystal flashing more brightly than before. Green lighting was surrounding it, and two streaks of it was striking the two portals, keeping them open.

"The crystal is giving you two options." Lucille told her as she padded to the full moon, "You can either start your journey to the afterlife-"

"Or you can choose to go back and help your friends." Shadow put in, padding to the new moon.

"The crystal I was wearing was a fake when I was shot. How can I be given a chance like this?"

"Alex brought the real crystal when he was in the right mind. It's around your neck on your body now, so that gives you the choices." Shadow told her.

Anjela looked at both moons, appalled. "How will I choose?"

Lucille glanced at the moons and back at her. "If you choose the afterlife, you'll no longer have the duty of ending the war. And you'll be able to see dead loved ones again."

Dad. I would do anything to see him again...

"But," she continued, "You will be abandoning your friends and more than likely the war will either continue, or come to a tragic stop. Going may cost other peoples' lives."

Shadow stepped forward. "If you choose the new chance at life, you'll be able to end the war like the prophecy promised, and you will get to reunite with your twin. But by going back you will be faced with more stress and suffering, and you will have to be extra careful with the crystal. Going back will mean if something happens to the crystal, you die."

"How would I die?" Anjela asked, her voice slightly shaking.

"The crystal is giving you the option, like we said before." Lucille told her, her eyes going dark. "If you choose the new life, the crystal will be the only thing that keeps you alive. And if it breaks, you break too."

Anjela looked at both of the moons and gulped. This was a life changing decision. Literally. She padded towards them and glanced at the wolf sisters. They were staring at her expectantly, waiting for her to speak once more.

She first stared at the full moon and imagined what would happen. Anjela would get to see her father again, and before then, she could only dream of seeing each other once more. She would no longer feel the overwhelming pain that supposedly took her life. Anjela then realized if she went through that portal she would be abandoning the rest of her family. And because she became part wolf, her family shattered and tore apart.

Could I really leave my family after I destroyed it?

Anjela turned her head to the left to stare at the new moon. New life. But new risk. She knew beyond that portal that she would be returning to the blood curdling cries of battle, and that she would be expected to stop the war with the crystal.
