Chapter 12

Riker

I woke up really early the next morning with Brianna wrapped in my arms. I smiled as I heard her light snoring. I looked at the clock and noticed it was 7am and they wold be waking up soon. i decided to head into the kitchen and start cooking a little breakfast.

I heard someone come in expecting it to be Brianna I didnt turn around as I was cooking eggs and bacon, I just said " hey babe, how do you like your eggs?" Then I heard Rydel's voice. "Babe? thats a little awkward but if it's meant for Brianna I hope you know what you are doing, Riker." i turned and saw her arms crossed. "Sorry Del, yes that babe was for Brianna but I don't need you worrying. I can handle this." I know she is just worried I will get my heart broken yet again. But I don't see that happening. I haven't felt like this with anyone before.

" have you mentioned to her we will be going on a small tour here in a few days?" Rydel reminded me." Shit Rydel I totally forgot about that." I said and put my hands over my face. I forgot we had a few shows all over the west part of the country the next couple weeks. We are going to Portland, OR, Seattle, Denver, and Phoenix. We will be gone for two and a half weeks. But there may be time for me to fly home for a couple days so I can spend time with Brianna. I will habe to figure it out.

" how could you forget about tour, Riker? You have had your head in the clouds the last Few days. I haven't see you like this since, well high school I guess." She mentioned the relationship I had senior year where the girl cheated on me and I was heartbroken forever.

" I am sorry Rydel. I just have a lot on my mind right now. I don't need you to worry. I am a big boy now I can take care of myself. I don't put up with things like what Lauren did." I aid matter of factly. Then I turned around to see Brianna walking in.

"good morning!" I said cheerfully pulling her into a hug.

" Good morning Riker, good morning Rydel." She answered back to us. " whatever you are cooking smells delicious. Maddie should be getting up any minute then we should be heading back to my house to get her ready for her field trip" she started talking about her plans.

" Ok not a problem. I made some scrambled eggs,bacon, and toast for breakfast. If you want some?" I offered. " Thanks Riker." she said as she grabbed the plate I set out for her and a glass of orange juice. I could see Rydel looking at us out of the corner of her eye. Then Ellington came in. Next tonight we know we hear Maddie.

Brianna 

" Mama!" I heard Maddie yell. I got up ano ran to the tv room. " what's wrong sweetie?" I asked

" sorry mom I just forgot where I was for a minute.mama I had so much fun yesterday! we went swimming and watched movies and played games!" I smiled as she told me everything they got to do last night. I sat on the floor as Maddie sat on the couch just talking and talking about everything. I noticed Riker was standing in the door way watching and listening intently.

" Mama did you stay here last night too?" Maddie asked curiously.

" I did. you fell asleep with Rydel and I couldn't let you wake up so Riker brought me all sorts of blankets and pillows and we had a pajama party sleep over on the floor!" I tried not to imply that I slept in Riker's arms. Which I wanted to do again more than ever.

Maddie giggled and got up to go potty. Then she joined everyone in the kitchen for breakfast. After we had finished eating, Riker drove us back to my parents house so we could get ready for the day and I could drop Maddie off at school. We pulled into the driveway and Maddie hopped right out and ran in the house. I got out of his car and Riker and I walked up to the front door.

" Thank you for everything last night." i said sadly as we were about to be apart.

" no thanks are in order. I had a great time. I don't really want to leave you know?" Riker said as he pulled me into a hug . " I also forgot to tell you we are leaving in a few days to go on a short tour for two weeks. I am hoping to be able to fly home at least for a couple days so we can get together or something." He me tioned.

" Oh, I didn't know you were going on tour." I look at him sadly. I don't want to be apart from him and I know Maddie loves hanging out with rydel and Ellington. " Well I should probably go get her ready. I am heading to the courthouse to meet with my lawyer and file papers after I drop off Maddie today. I feel like a failure doing this but I know once it is all over everything is going to be ten times better."

"You need to do what you feel is right. From an outsiders perspective, you should have done this a long time ago." He shrugged trying not to sound judgemental.

" yea I know. Well cheers to a brighter future for Maddie and me. I will talk to you later ok?" I say as I turn to walk in the house. I didn't get far before I felt a tug on my arm and Riker had pulled me to him and kissed me. When he let go I walked into my house and watched him leave. This is what I have always wanted for myself and for Maddie.

few hours later...

I dropped Maddie off at school and headed to the courthouse. I pulled in the parking lot and noticed Josh's vehicle there. i got really nervous as I went into my lawyers office.

" well it looks like you are in luck" said my lawyer, Roland Smith. " Josh just filed paperwork for a divorce. He petitioned you get custody of Madeline and pretty much anything you want from the house but he wants to keep the house. So as long as you are ok with this which sounds like a fair deal here, you can sign and I will send this off to the judge and it will be finalized in two months."

" Wow, I didnt think this would be as easy as it is. So when it comes to custody of Madeline, when does he get visits?" I asked curiously.

" Well from the paperwork I received an hour ago, it looks like he doesn't want visitation. Looks like he wants to sign off his parental rights." Roland said sincerely.

" Oh" is all I could say before the tears came. I am not going to fight it but I can't believe he just wants to give her up. Does he not realize what he will be missing. My poor babygirl. I signed the divorce petiton and walked out in tears. I sat in my car and looked up. Josh was coming out of the courthouse with a woman who looked older than him. she was clutching her belly and when she turned I saw that she was pregnant. I couldn't believe he just traded us in for a new life just like that. Not I don't feel so guilty being with Riker. I out the keys in the ignition and drove over to Rikers place.
