"Hey. Why didn't you pick up my call?" I say into the phone.

"Oh, the battery was dead," Ivy says groggily.

"Were you sleeping?" I ask.

"No, I was just—"

"Are you free tomorrow night?" I interrupt.

"Uh... I told you, right? I have to meet Jason... to, you know..." Ivy stutters.

"Oh, yeah, yeah. I forgot about it," I say, trying not to let my disappointment show. But maybe after Ivy ends things with Jason, we can go out without any complications. The idea sounds almost unreal, like something out of a fairy tale. Despite my initial reservations and doubts about her lifestyle and friends, I can't help but fall for her more each day.

"It's all right. Then we can go out peacefully," She laughs.

"We sure can," I sigh.

"We've come a long way, haven't we?" Ivy asks.

"We sure have," I reply, agreeing with her. It's incredible how our paths have crossed and how our relationship has evolved.

Ivy was everything I used to despise. I've read countless novels where a good girl falls for a bad boy, only to have her heart broken in the end. I can't help but worry if the same will happen to us. I hope that Ivy won't break my heart. I hope that our story is different from the typical stereotypes.

"Why aren't you asleep?" Ivy questions.

"I was just helping Dad with some paperwork," I reply.

"Okay then. I'll see you tomorrow. Good night," Ivy says softly into the phone and hangs up.
