Spencer
"Spencer, wake up! It's 8 in the morning. Don't you have a class?" Dad's voice echoes through the staircase, jolting me awake.
"I am up! Can you please make me a cup of coffee?" I yell back.
"On it. Come down fast," he replies.
I quickly take a hot shower and dress in warm, layered clothes and make my way downstairs for breakfast.
"Morning, dad," I greet him as I take a seat on the stool next to the kitchen slab.
"Morning. Do you have any classes in the second half?" he asks, pouring coffee into a mug.
"Yeah, I have one at 2. I'll be free by 4. What's up?" I respond, sipping the steaming coffee.
"Drop by the office around 5. There's a general meeting, and I want you to be there, just to get a hang of everything," he informs me.
"Alright, I'll be there. I gotta go now... I'm getting late," I say, glancing at the clock.
Where has Ivy been? She didn't show up for the class. Is she alright? Should I text her? No, that'd be too clingy, right?
The morning passes by in the blink of an eye, and I find myself in need of a quick break. I decide to stop by the cafe to grab a bite to eat before heading off to the publishing house. Lately, I've noticed that my dad's focus has been solely on expanding his business since the divorce. It leaves me feeling a growing distance between us. Our bond, which should be unbreakable given everything we've been through, feels strained.
"WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING HERE?" A sharp voice seeps in from behind. Wait, I know that voice. I turn around, and any lingering doubts disappear when I see Ivy standing there, holding a bunch of papers and a sipper in her hands.
"What are you doing here?" I'm equally surprised.
"I asked first," she replies defensively.
"I'm Spencer McKeller, and this is McKeller Publishing House. So...um.."
"Oh my god... so you're the son of..." Ivy's jaw drops.
"Yeah," I chuckle softly.
"Huh... what a small world," she sighs.
"So, back to my question... what are you doing here?"
"I'm an intern here. I've been one for four months."
"Indeed, a small world."
"Are you free right now?" I ask her.
"Kind of... I just have to drop off these manuscripts. Why, though?"
"Uh... I thought maybe we could go for... a coffee. I have this meeting that I have to attend right now... it won't take much time." I stutter, trying to complete my sentence.
"Uh, actually, I..."
I cut her off. "Come on already."
"Alright... I'll drop these off, and I'll be waiting for you at Esters."
"Super."
