                                                                             Ivy

Today is the day that I have the conversation I've been dreading about. I hope that the evening will go smoothly. We can have dinner at a nice place and after that, I'll calmly explain everything and end things with him. When it comes to Jason, I have this nagging feeling that he might not be deeply affected by our conversation—or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

The morning passes by swiftly as I try to keep myself busy with various tasks to distract from the weight of the impending conversation.

I decide on meeting up with Jason and the gang over lunch so that I can ask Jason to have dinner with me tonight.

"Hey, Ivy!" Samuel yells from a distance.

"Hey...What's up?" I say as I walk over to them.

"Guys, don't you think that Ivy rarely hangs out with us nowadays?" Liz remarks in a mocking tone.

"I've been busy with assignments lately.'' I justify, not wanting to give her any more ammunition.

"Sure, nerd. Let's go, guys," she signals Jason and Samuel, and without much choice, I walk along with them to the canteen.

We find our designated seats in the canteen, and I try to keep up with the conversation, but my mind is preoccupied with the upcoming dinner with Jason. He holds my hand, and I force a smile, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy.

"So, what's the plan for tonight?" I ask Jason while Liz and Samuel are busy arguing about what to order.

"I have a practice match today, so I'll be free by 7.''

"Perfect! Let's have dinner together. We could go to the new cafe that opened on 6th Ave.'' I suggest nervously.

"Sure sounds perfect. I'll pick you up at 8.''

"Sounds like a plan," I smile, my heart beating faster as I realize that the moment of truth is fast approaching. I can only hope for things to not go south.

The rest of the day goes by quickly. After the break, I attend two classes, and after that, I return to my dorm, spend some time studying, and eventually doze off. As I wake up from my slumber I am greeted with 5 mussed calls from Spencer. Before I can even think about calling him back, my phone rings again, and it's Spencer on the line. I answer on the very first ring, curious and slightly concerned.

"Hey...is everything all right?" I ask.

"Yeah...I was just bored.''

I sigh. "You worry me,'' I add.

"Why didn't you pick up?'' Spencer asks.

"I just woke up. I fell asleep while studying.'' I yawn.

"Oh.''

"Where were you during lunch today?"

"Dad's assistant called me and told me he fainted during a meeting and was taken to the hospital. Doctors said it was exhaustion.'' Spencer explains.

"What? How is he now?'' I ask,

"A little better. The doctor told him to rest for a week.''

" That means I'm gonna have to look after everything.'' Spencer completes the sentence.

"In case you need any help you can always tell me. I'll be there.'' I say.

"Yup. Thanks.'' He replies solemnly.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Binging The Big Bang Theory and eating a bucket of cookie ice cream," he replies softly.

"You sound like you got dumped by someone," I tease, trying to lighten the mood.

He lets out an exasperated scoff and responds, "Do I have to get dumped by someone for it to be acceptable to indulge in ice cream and TV?"

I chuckle at his comeback. "I was just kidding, Spence," I reply in a reassuring tone.

"Spence? I'm hearing that for the first time, but somehow I like it," he remarks.

"Hey... I'll talk to you later, my phone is about to die."

"Okay then. Bye," he says.

"Let me know if you need any help. Don't hesitate," I say.

"I will. Thanks," he replies before we end the call.

Amidst the excitement that talking to Spencer ignites the reality of my current situation with Jason dawns on me.

It's already 8 PM, and my mind is conflicted about what to do. I know I need to resolve things with Jason so that I can fully explore this burgeoning connection with Spencer.

Finally, around 8:30 the doorbell rang and As I try to comprehend the situation, frustration and disappointment well up inside me. I had been prepared to have a difficult conversation with Jason and finally end things, but his drunken state has thrown a wrench in my plans. I can't help but raise my voice, "Omg! What is up with you?"

Jason jiggles a little and leans on my shoulder, his alcohol breath filling the air. "I drank a little-" he slurs.

"A little? Your actions say otherwise," I cut him off, managing to guide him to lie down on the bed.

"We were supposed to go on a date today...Let's go. You said you wanted to talk to me about something?" he mumbles drowsily.

"You are in no condition to stand on your feet, let alone take me out," I mock, trying to keep my emotions in check. "Why did you drink so much?" I ask, sitting beside him on the bed.

"Lee invited us to his house for a drink after the practice match," Jason replies slowly.

"You know it's never just a drink," I respond.

He nods and seconds later starts snoring. I let out a frustrated sigh. He can't stay here like this. This messes up everything I planned. I was supposed to end things with Jason today, once and for all. Now, with him sleeping here, it's only making things more complicated. I can't tell Spencer the truth. The thought of seeing him hurt pains me deeply. I need to find a way out of this situation.

OKAY...I'll tell Spencer that I broke up with Jason, and I'll avoid Jason until tomorrow evening. Then, when he's sober, I'll have the conversation I intended to have today. Yes, that's what I'll do. Just one more day, I reassure myself.
