Optimus Prime walked through the corridors of the Ark, the ancient Autobot ship that had crashed on Earth millions of years ago and now served as their base of operations. He had received a message from Bumblebee, who had detected a strange energy signature near the ship. Optimus was curious and concerned, wondering if it was a Decepticon trap or a new threat.
He reached the main hangar, where Bumblebee and several other Autobots were waiting for him. They were surrounding a tall figure, clad in white and blue armor, with a metal helmet that covered his face. The figure was holding a staff that crackled with electricity.
"Optimus, this is Raiden," Bumblebee said. "He claims to be the God of Thunder and the Protector of Earthrealm."
Optimus studied the figure, feeling a mix of awe and skepticism. He had never encountered a being like this before, nor had he heard of Earthrealm. He wondered if this was some kind of deception, but he sensed no hostility or malice from Raiden.
"Greetings, Raiden," Optimus said. "I am Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots. We are allies of the humans and defenders of this planet."
Raiden nodded, lowering his staff. "I know who you are, Optimus Prime. I have been watching you and your comrades for some time. You have fought bravely and honorably against the Decepticons and other enemies. You have earned my respect and gratitude."
"Thank you, Raiden," Optimus said. "But I must ask, what brings you here? And what is Earthrealm?"
Raiden sighed, looking at the sky. "Earthrealm is one of many realms that exist in this multiverse. It is the realm where humans and other life forms dwell. It is also the realm that I have sworn to protect from any harm or invasion."
"Invasion?" Optimus asked. "By whom?"
Raiden's eyes flashed with anger. "By Outworld, Netherrealm, and other dark realms that seek to conquer and destroy Earthrealm. They are led by evil beings such as Shao Kahn, Shinnok, and Quan Chi. They are as ruthless and power-hungry as Megatron and his Decepticons."
Optimus felt a chill run down his spine. He had never heard of these names before, but he could tell they were dangerous foes. He wondered how Raiden could fight them alone.
"How do you protect Earthrealm from these invaders?" Optimus asked.
Raiden smiled faintly. "By following the rules of Mortal Kombat."
"Mortal Kombat?" Optimus repeated, puzzled. "What is that?"
Raiden explained, "Mortal Kombat is a sacred tournament that was established by the Elder Gods, the supreme beings of this multiverse. It is a way to prevent realms from invading each other by force. Instead, they must challenge each other to Mortal Kombat, a series of one-on-one fights between their chosen warriors. The winner of each fight earns a point for their realm. The first realm to win ten points in a row has the right to merge with the losing realm."
Optimus was stunned by this revelation. He had never imagined such a system of conflict resolution. He wondered how it worked in practice.
"That sounds fair and honorable," Optimus said. "But what if the invaders cheat or refuse to follow the rules?"
Raiden's expression darkened. "That is the problem, Optimus. The invaders often cheat and break the rules, using deception, treachery, and sorcery to gain an advantage. They also try to bypass the tournament altogether, by launching sneak attacks or creating portals to Earthrealm. That is why I need your help, Optimus."
"My help?" Optimus asked.
Raiden nodded. "Yes, Optimus. You and your Autobots are powerful and noble warriors. You have proven yourselves worthy of fighting in Mortal Kombat. You have also shown compassion and friendship to the humans, who are also my allies and champions. I need you to join me in defending Earthrealm from the invaders. Together, we can stop them from destroying this world and its people."
