Aloy rode her Strider across the vast grassland of Utah, following the signal of an unknown origin. She had been tracking it for days, hoping to find another clue to her past and the secrets of the Old Ones. She scanned the horizon with her Focus, looking for any signs of danger or interest.
She spotted a large metal structure in the distance, partially covered by vegetation and dirt. It looked like an old bunker or a warehouse, with a faded sign that read "Sobeck Animal Cloning Facility". Aloy felt a surge of curiosity and excitement. She recognized the name Sobeck as the one who created Project Zero Dawn, the last hope of humanity before the Faro Plague wiped out all life on Earth. She also knew that Sobeck was the woman she was cloned from, her genetic mother and the source of her mysterious connection to the ancient technology.
She decided to investigate the facility, hoping to find more answers. She dismounted her Strider and approached the entrance cautiously. She used her Focus to scan for any traps or machines, but found none. The place seemed abandoned and silent. She found a door that was locked by a security system, but she managed to hack it with her Focus and her spear. She entered the facility and was greeted by a dark and dusty corridor.
She turned on her Focus's flashlight and walked through the hallways, looking for anything of interest. She saw several rooms that were filled with old equipment, computers, and monitors. She accessed some of them with her Focus and downloaded their data. She learned that this facility was one of Sobeck's projects before she started working on Zero Dawn. It was a research center dedicated to cloning endangered or extinct animal species, using DNA samples collected from various sources. Sobeck's goal was to restore the biodiversity and balance of nature, as well as to preserve the genetic heritage of Earth's fauna.
Aloy was amazed by Sobeck's vision and ambition. She wondered what kind of animals she had cloned and if any of them had survived the apocalypse. She continued to explore the facility, hoping to find some clues. She reached a large room that looked like a laboratory or a storage area. She saw several rows of metal containers that were labeled with different names and numbers. She used her Focus to scan them and found out that they contained DNA samples of different animal species.
She recognized some of the names, such as Canids, Aves, Felids, Proboscideans, Cetaceans, etc. She also saw some names that she had never heard of, such as Dodo, Mammoth, Quagga, and Thylacine. She realized that these were animals that had gone extinct long before the Faro Plague, either due to human activity or natural causes. She wondered what they looked like and how they lived.
She felt a mix of awe and sadness as she looked at the containers. She wondered if Sobeck had managed to clone any of these animals and if they had lived happily or suffered in captivity. She wondered if they had any descendants or relatives in the current world or if they were truly gone forever. She wondered if she could ever see them in person or only in her dreams.
She decided to take some of the DNA samples with her, hoping to find a way to use them or study them later. She opened some of the containers and took out small vials that contained the genetic material. She stored them in her pouch carefully, making sure not to damage them. She felt a strange connection to these animals, as if they were part of her family or history.
She left the room and continued to explore the facility, looking for more information or surprises. As she walked through another corridor, she heard a voice coming from a speaker on the wall.
"Hello? Is anyone there? Please respond."
Aloy stopped and looked at the speaker with surprise. The voice sounded familiar, but she couldn't place it.
"Hello? Can you hear me? I'm trapped in here. Please help me."
Aloy hesitated for a moment, then decided to answer.
"Who are you? Where are you?"
The voice sounded relieved.
"Oh, thank God. Someone finally heard me. I'm Dr. Anita Sandoval, one of Sobeck's assistants. I'm locked in a room at the end of this corridor."
Aloy frowned.
"How did you get locked in there? And how are you still alive?"
The voice explained.
"I was working on a cloning experiment when something went wrong. The machines malfunctioned and started attacking me. I managed to escape into this room and lock the door behind me, but I couldn't get out again. The security system was corrupted and wouldn't respond to my commands."
Aloy asked.
"What about Sobeck? Where is she?"
The voice sighed.
"She left this facility a long time ago, before everything went crazy. She said she had an urgent mission to save the world from extinction. I don't know what she meant by that, but I never saw her again."
Aloy felt a pang of disappointment.
"So you don't know anything about Zero Dawn?"
The voice said.
"Zero Dawn? No, I don't. What is that?"
Aloy realized that this woman was clueless about Sobeck's ultimate plan. She decided not to waste time explaining it to her.
"Never mind. It doesn't matter. Listen, I'll try to get you out of there, but I need to find a way to override the security system. Do you have any idea how to do that?"
The voice said.
"Maybe. There's a terminal in this room that connects to the main server. If you can hack into it, you might be able to unlock the door. But be careful, there are still some machines roaming around the facility. They might attack you if they see you."
Aloy nodded.
"Alright, I'll try that. Stay calm and wait for me. I'll be back soon."
She ended the communication and headed towards the end of the corridor, where she saw a door with a red light above it. She hoped that this woman was telling the truth and not lying to her or setting a trap for her. She hoped that she could help her and maybe learn something from her. She hoped that she could find something that would explain why Sobeck had chosen her as her clone and what her purpose was in this world. She hoped to find something that would make her feel closer to Sobeck and understand her better.
She hoped to find something that would make her happy.
A/N: The Horizon game franchise is one of my favorites. And Aloy is a strong female character done right. In yo face, Disney!
A/N: Before anyone asks, this isn't an idea for a hypothetical dlc, this is just a fanfic oneshot story meant to be just that.
