Narcissa was walking through the manor corridors in the early hours of the morning when she heard the sound of something be planted on a wooden table in the manor library. As she opened the door Narcissa saw Y/N reading through a book taking notes, writing down on sticky notes.
"Y/N? Why aren't you in bed?" Narcissa asked as she saw him continue writing notes.
"Because I'm working on something." Y/N said as he looked at the next book.
"What are you working on?"
"...I think someone's going to try and steal something from Hogwarts, and I think they're the same people who broke into Gringotts." Y/N said as he took down a note and underlined it twice, he stuck the note to another note before going through the book.
"You've been doing this all night?" Narcissa asked.
"Yes." Y/N said as he looked at everything and gathered it up. "I should start packing, I don't want to miss the train."
"You're going back to school so soon?"
"Yes, I have things to do there." Y/N said as he put all of his notes into a folder.
"Oh for heavens sake, don't tell me you're chasing down this so called lead on the Gringotts break in." Narcissa said as she looked at him.
"As a matter of fact, no. You don't need to worry Mothe-...Aunty...you don't need to worry, I'm not some foolish Gryffindor with a hero complex." Y/N said as Narcissa was caught off guard by what he had nearly just called her.
"Look if you're doing this just to spite me for what happened yesterday and how I reacted to your new friends you can stop you've proven your point." Narcissa said as Y/N looked at her for a moment. "I admit I was harsh on you, who you call friend is your decision, I'm sorry for how I reacted. I just...I worry about you, that's all. Your mother was my oldest and closest friend, she was like a third sister to me, you're the last remnant of her in my life, I...I can not lose you like I lost her. I know I'm not her, but I love you like a son Y/N, I don't want to lose you especially on some foolish crusade."
"Aunty Narcissa, you've always had my back and supported me in whatever I want to be, this is what I want and what I was meant for, this is what I'm good at, enforcing rules, just like my father-"
"And look at where that landed him Y/N. The people of Fabletown hated him even after everything he did for them, he lived in the smallest apartment in the woodlands, he nearly died goodness knows how many times, and he's been missing for years." Narcissa said as she looked her nephew in the eyes.
"I'm not my mum and dad! I'm not going to just piss off somewhere and leave a kid on someone's doorstep and never show up."
"You watch your tongue when talking about your mother and father." Narcissa said as her tone grew firm.
"Why? It's not like they care, if they did they'd be here giving me the telling off instead of making me somebody else's burden." Y/N said as he left, grabbing his belongings and beginning to pack everything.
Y/N was in a cabin with Draco, Daphne, and Pansy Parkinson, Y/N was in no fit mood for any of Pansy's usual annoyances.
"Come now Y/N, why do you waste your time on those Gryffindors?" Pansy asked as Y/N looked at her.
"Well they all share some redeeming features." Y/N said as he lit a cigarette before standing up.
"Which is?"
"They're not you." Y/N said before leaving the cabin.
Daphne was shocked by Y/N, he wasn't usually a malicious person.
"Is Y/N okay?" Daphne asked Draco.
"He and Mother had an argument, again. They had one on Christmas morning, and one this morning, mother actually cried this morning, when she thought no one was looking, and then there's the big fight with Father yesterday, I don't think its wise for anyone to annoy him when he's like this." Draco said as he looked at Y/N stood in the corridor smoking out of the window. He watched as his cousin put the cigarette out before heading further down into the Gryffindor carriage, as he opened the door he received a few glares of some students but Neville looked at him.
"You okay Y/N?" Neville asked as Y/N looked up at him.
"Neville isn't it?" Y/N asked as the boy nodded.
"Yeah, and you're, well everyone knows you." Neville said as Y/N smiled.
"Yeah, big bad Slytherin, big bad wolf." Y/N said as Neville smiled.
"You're not that bad, you saved Hermione from that troll. And you helped save Harry when someone was jinxing his broom." Neville said as Y/N chuckled.
"Just doing my civic duty Neville." Y/N said modestly as Neville opened the door to the cabin revealing Hermione, a blonde Gryffindor girl, and another Gryffindor boy.
"Y/N, this is Seamus Finnigan, and this is Lavender Brown. Seamus, Lavender, this is Y/N Malfoy, he's the one who saved Hermione from the troll."
"Hello." Y/N said as he shook hands with Seamus and Lavender.
"So, what brings you to this carriage?" Seamus asked as Y/N smirked.
"I was actually looking for Hermione, I had some stuff to help her with her homework." Y/N said as he pulled out a folder full of everything he had on Nicholas Flamel and handed it to her.
"How did you find all of this?"
"Thank Daphne, she accidentally left one of her books at my place and I was looking through it when I saw the name, started following the trail until this morning." Y/N said as he remembered the argument. He sighed to himself as he put a cigarette in his mouth and lit it before standing up. "I'll get going. I've got to patrol the other carriages and make sure there's no trouble going on. Take care you four. Nice meeting you."
As Y/N left he looked at his coat that Daphne had bought for him, happy that she had gone to the trouble of getting an enchantment for Y/N to change it to whatever colour scheme he wanted, he changed it so that the coat looked more in line with school uniform standards.
